You need to have a great web hosting company in order to run a great online business and…
I have more shared hosting and dedicated web hosting servers than I can count on both hands.
And not even my web properties manager can tell me with absolute certainty how many domains or shared hosting accounts we have.
So if anyone knows about web hosting I’d say I do.
And I’d like to share my favorite web hosts with you so you can avoid some of the hassles I have over the years.
One thing, though:
No host is perfect.
But some are definitely better than others…
And the ones below are ones that we either use in our own business, or have done the research and feel they offer great service and value.
Here are a few web hosting deals I recommend you check out for yourself:
Consumer Notice: These are affiliate banners. If you click them and sign up with the hosting company, I may get paid a commission.
I’ve been using lunarpages since the very beginning. I can’t recall ever having issues with their service… I keep getting rebilled every year and I keep paying it so that speaks for itself:
Hostgator offers unlimited domains for under $10. We use it and we love it:
Bluehost is highly regarded in the industry and offers unlimited domains and hosting space for $6.95 a month:
apollo hosting allows 20 domains for less than ten bucks a month but the bandwidth and storage space is low… but I doubt the average person would even need what they give you. And their hosting is highly regarded in the industry.
Midphase has been one of our main hosting providers for years. They offer customer service 24hrs a day and have proven to be reliable:
As low as $2.50/mo -Superb Internet . I have used this company for the few years or more and have never had a serious problem. Highly Recommended.

iPowerWeb hosting was one of the first hosting accounts I signed up almost 4 years ago, and I’m still using them today. 25 domains on one account:
I’ve been using anhosting for years. They are now owned by midphase so make sure they don’t put you on the same sever as your midphase account (just ask them to put you on a different server and the will):
aplus.net is definitely on our list of approved hosting companies for our clients, and has been highly rated by others:

Jeff Johnson, I don’t know who you are but I am glad I found you. There are too few people like you on the web, trust me! Although I have not made any money yet, but after listening to you taped interview I really feel it is not as impossible as it seemed before I was e-mailed your link. Some how I know it is only a matter of time. Thanks Jeff, if you were here right now I would grab you and give you a kiss (on the cheek) Have a good Thanksgiving ! Speak to you after the holidays ………. bob

Jeff,
I am 57, with my mortgage 2 months behind and only $50 to my name.
I have tried the online/internet business in the past with regrets. I attended one of Christopher’s seminars I can see how his drive is giving him more than enough to enjoy his life. I like him and I trust him. That is the reason why I am joining your Affiliate program and I want to do it correctly. I do need to learn everything about it, do it correctly and make money as I hear/read other people are doing it. Is my age a challenged? I do not know, what I do know is that I am home and need to make money ASAP
to pay for my mortgage.
Jeff, With 50.00 on hand CAN I START MAKING MONEY RIGHT AWAY?. I AM READY TO PUT THE NECESSARY TIME TO DO SO. I am also an affiliate of Bill Bartman. I know how to send e-mails – MY BIG QUESTION IS CAN I START MAKING MONEY ONLINE IF I ONLY HAVE $50 IN MY BANK ACCOUNT?
Anthony Montalbano says: We don’t make any income claims and do not recommend relying on our affiliate program or software solely as a way to make money, especially to pull yourself out of debt. First off, our blog software is designed to create SEO optimized blogs to help increase traffic to your current business or blog. Second, our affiliate program is designed for people who have client lists or email lists that they want to share our program and software with. It would be difficult to join our affiliate program and make any money from it without having some type of quality email list. Our affiliate program and training material does have potential to make people money, but shouldn’t be considered as a way to help pay off your mortgage. Again, we don’t make any income claims and for me to tell you that we could help you make money online would be doing just that.
Justin // Dec 13, 2009 at 12:54 am
Great to see a really responsible answer.
There is no shortcut to making money online. If you only have $50 in your bank account you should be looking for free resources. The Warrior Forum is one of the best for free information with regards to internet marketing.
Once you build a list and only then can you really expect to make money in affiliate income.
Randy // Dec 19, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Great response. But if all you’ve got is $50, don’t rely on any one thing. Get out there and hustle.
In the mean time, I suggest a JV. Most people are too busy with their own business (or too lazy to do more). All they need is someone to come along and say “Hey. Let me do X for a percentage of the profits I bring in”.
All you need is a phone, the internet, ingenuity, hard work – it can be done.
You could be in for some decent coin in 2 to 3 months. Maybe sooner…

Dear Jeff
I’m going to sign for the free blog software and hope that will drive traffic to my website which is pretty new.
I’m handicapped by my lack of technical knowhow. But I do so need to have an alternative means of income and truly hope that I can make it through the traffic that will come through as you’ve claimed.

Hi Jeff
You are really a breath of fresh air. Where everyone is looking to make money for themselves, you are out here helping those of us who are trying everything else and failing because, at least I, don’t have enough technical knowledge to understand what to do. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and plan to follow your instructions and hopefully send you an email with a successful business to show your effect on others.
I have a free wordpress blog, but I don’t think I can do as much with that as with yours. I will do my best to start it up and hope that it will work out.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Hi Jeff ! how are you ?
you seem to be a very smart guyknowing a lot about how to make money marketing on the internet, and I would loke to do business with you because I think you have some of the knowlager I need to get my act together here on the internet, but in order for it to work I need to be able to communicate with you, is that possible??? . I know from experidence that most vendors they advertise using their email database selling various products to us but leave no way for us to communicate with them, in other words it is a one way street of selling, and for us customers to either buy or shut up and get lost. thank you very much ! I think this is wrong, to market without any customer service at all. Let’s face it Jeff with out us, you wouldn’t be in business, so please advise Jeff thank you and happy Hollyday Season
Cordiall Regards Karey
Jeff johnson says: I don’t work one-on-one with everyone on my list, that would be impossible. But I do communicate with my clients.
How much depends on the level of service you signed up for. Some need a lot, some not so much, and others none at all.
I will say though, that my mastermind group and apprentice programs are not currently open to new members.. and those are usually the most “intimate” forms of communicating with me.
But my coaching club just opened back up.

OK, Hostgator is a good one.
However, I do NOT agree with you on several others.
Plus, funny that all these seem to be the ones that pay the highest affiliate commissions… Pure coincidence, I am sure?!
Jeff Johnson says: No, they are not the highest paying; but they are all from cj.com, which makes it easier for my guys to put the list together for you.
But they are the ones we personally use.
And we have removed several from the list as service level drops dictate.
As I said, no hosting company is perfect, and each user has a unique perspective on service levels.
I have lots of hosting companies offering me more money to promote them, but I stick with the ones I use or have researched from trusted sources.

In terms of Midphase and Anhosting, they are the worst in the history of hosting!!!!!!
They have my money for a full year hosting but they cannot give me a link to log on let alon upload. I have given it up for a bad job but i can prove every word, i have copies of all my correspondence and theirs.
THEY ARE BAD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeff Johnson says: Really, I’ve had multiple accounts hosting dozens of domains over the years. Oher than one major issue we’ve been completely happy with their service.
they even move me to semi-dedicated servers for the same price as shared if my traffic volume gets too high.
and they ‘ve arranged for hosting in different data centers when i’ve need different class c blocks

Jeff and team,
I would like to thank you for sharing valuable posts on your blog. The information that you provide really help me to make the decision and provide valuable insights. To be honest, Jeff, I am a total newbie. The first and only sale that I made so far from the internet is $5 from selling a t-shirt, but I do believe, the right mixture of persistence, efforts, valuable insights from blog posts such as yours, and most importantly is a prayer will help me succeed.
I am from a third world country and English is my 3rd or 4th language. And although I am not in the U.S., I also share the American dreams and I always admire the spirit of entepreneurships of Americans no matter how ridiculous and full of bullshit they are at the beginning.
Again, keep posting and sharing with us valuable posts for you will not only win friends from every corner of the world but I believe it will be spiritually rewarding at the same time.

I noticed on your E-mail signature line that you are local to me. You show Shelby Twp I am in Macomb.
You have no Idea how much that inspired me. To know that I could deal with a local guy facing the same Economic issues I am having in Michigan.
I signed up for your affiliate JV with Mike Filsaime and opened my website. I have been working feverishly trying to get traffic to the site. Since I have no product of my own and am not that great at writing ad copy. I am relying on the pro’s to get my feet wet and make a little money as a stepping stone to get this business off the ground.
Do you do any one on one trainings? Since I am your neighbor and all… lol

Hi Jeff
You nailed it, just like you have done, affiliating to web hosts is a great way to make money, care to let us all in on how much you have made off this post so far and while you are at it how about showing the struggling newbies that visit your site how to do it for themselves. I did something similar some years back but then it was a lot slower to make money as there were not so many folk looking to host a site or two or three.
I am about to go for it again using some of the tricks I have learned from other internet marketers and will keep you posted if you like.
If it works I’ll even show others how to do it (in a year or two) once I have made my way clear financially.
Anyway, cheers and good luck
Jeff Johnson: this entire site is dedicated to helping struggling marketers learn how to do it.
There are well over 60 turorial and seminar videos inside this blog, or linked to from my blog… probably closer to 75.
As for how much I’ve made…. not enough to compensate me for the time, effort and expense it takes me to keep the free content flowing.. at least not directly.
but I’ve been doing it for 4 years now and will keep doing it as long as you guys keep enjoying it
Kristof // Dec 30, 2008 at 3:10 pm
I find it difficult to trust recommendations when they’re posted as affiliate links.
Jeff Johnson says:
That’s really a strange statement …. do you not trust search results from yahoo, msn or google simply becasue they include advertisement links?
And do any of the sites you acccess for free have ads on them? If so, isn’t that an endoresement from them to visit their sponsors?
Does that mean you shouldn’t trust your favorite sites simply becasue they need to make money by allowing ads… so they can continure operations for you?
I give away tons of great content for free.
But I also make my living recommending products I believe in, or from people I trust.
And it’s well known I make my living as an affiliate marketer… that’s what pays the bills and allows me to keep producing free content and maintaining my free software and blogs.
So if I include a link, it’s worth checking out.
You don’t have to buy it, you have the choice not to.

Jeff
I like your list, even if I can’t agree on all recommendations.
But check out some other reviews. You will find a different top 10 list at each of them. So you must due your due diligence anyhow before you sign up for a Host.
And as Jeff told, there ain’t no PERFECT hosting companies out there. I personally host at Hostmonster and am happy like most are, but some are not.
And about the affiliate link complain. I’m always getting SICK of those guys which think that they are getting something for free if there wouldn’t be a affiliate commission.
Wake up man, that’s how economy works.
Someone has something to sell what someone need or like to buy, and the commission is the reward for recommending a great product. What’s wrong with that ?
At my Squidoo Lens I have a totally unique way to rank Hosts, maybe you are interested to see the most unbiased Top 10 Webhosting list available.

Hi Jeff, you don’t have to post this on the public side of your blog if you don’t want.
My name is Gerry Aubin, I specialize in the manufacturing of diamond engagement rings. I am looking for someone who can generate traffic and you seem to be the guy (or perhaps one of your apprentices) for the job.
A little over 2 years ago, I got a taste of online traffic, and the numbers that came with it.
I know that there are many keyword phrases for engagement rings that are popular and undertargeted by people actually selling diamonds online.
I am proposing a 50% split of profits on the sales of online engagement rings. I don’t have the time to “Do it yourself” like what all of this stuff preaches, nor would I enjoy it
I do however have a $25,000 photo studio setup to take care of producing the images of the finely crafted rings that I produce. Items that sell for as little as $1000 to as high as $300,000++
My big advantage is the ability to reproduce any diamond ring from just an image, and it has made me super busy and in demand for exactly that. I have sold my retail store in Canada, and am moving to California this fall. I do not wish to re-enter the traditional retail market place. I would much rather deal with client support online, and take care of manufacturing the next sale.
At this point, I would like to test your traffic getting methods with perhaps one area of the engagement ring business. That is the area that is in high demand right now (in my shop anyways) of antique style engagement rings.
If you had the time to build a site, market it, I could be order fulfillment department from front to back. Would you (or someone you know) be interested in something like that?
From the test of 2-3 engagement ring based longtail keywords, I am sure you could potentially like what this partnership would offer.
If you’re too busy, I understand. However, if you wish to entertain the thought, don’t hesitate to call me
I appreciate your time, as I realize you must be super busy with everything that you do.
Regards,
Gerry Aubin
Jeff Johnson,
Gerry, it sounds like you have a great business.
But it isn’t a market I’m currently in and I have no plans to enter it any time soon.. I just launched a new coaching club and I take a lot of time off in the summer to be with my kids while they are still you and enjoy my company
But… get a site, work on coversions, then set up an affiliate program with a well established affiliate network and start building relationships with leaders in your market.
And I feell 50% is probably too generous on your part for a diamond ring… I would think 10 -15% would be enough incentive for affiliates in your market.
Check cj.com and see what our competition is paying, and pay just a little bit more.
Justin // Dec 13, 2009 at 1:00 am
If you are still reading this Mr G, I would love to help you with your business and I agree 10-15% would be enough for a high ticket item like a diamond engagement ring.

Hi Jeff,
This was a timely post for me. There are so many hosting companies out there and I’ve recently canceled my account at one (not listed) because they made it extremely difficult to upload simple html pages.
In your opinion, is this the a trend for hosting companies, only supporting php pages?
Thanks again and I’ll be doing my ‘due dilligence’ over the weekend.
Jeff Johnson: I doubt any hosting comany would severly limit themselves and their clients by only supporting php.

Jeff, you shouldn’t make this web hosting list so big.
In the title, you said best web hosting and I thought it will be only ONE.
With this, it should be A list of recommended web hosting.
With this big list, people might get confused and blurred.
But if you add rating to each of them or ranking, it will help greatly.
Jeff Johnson: Sorry, but there is no “one’ “best” hosting company..
But if you need just one to start with I’d go with http://HostGatorSpecialOffer.com

I’ve been using LunarPages for years, too. I recommend them to everybody. I’ve found them to be VERY reliable, with great support the few times I’ve needed it. And they treat their current customers as well as their prospective ones: if they offer a “special” for new customers, they also offer it current ones… and most businesses don’t do that. (generous affiliate program, too!)

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for this list. It is always helpful to have recommendations when looking for new hosting companies.
There are many sharks out there, so I appreciate knowing who is not one

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for sharing this information with us. It is always good to have a recommendation list when buying and buy from a proven provider, rather than one of the sharks out there.
