Traffic Getting Jumpstart

May 11th, 2008 · 178 Comments

This is where I will list my step-by-step traffic-getting strategies for getting more traffic to your websites and blogs.

I call it my Traffic-Getting Jumpstart™ Master Plan.

I’ll start by adding a general outline and then I’ll come back and keep updating it with links to new videos and tutorials as I produce them… the videos and tutorials will that walk you through my “traffic getting” strategies one-by-one .

Not all of them will be posted on my blog.

Some will only be sent out via email so make sure you keep checking your inbox for my new and exclusive Traffic-Getting Tutorials.

Once again: This is the general process that I personally go through to ramp up traffic on a new blog.

Some, but not all of the techniques will also apply to static sites, social networking profile pages, or non-blog websites of any kind.

Each of the steps will be listed but not all of them will have tutorials… at least not for now.

But if you guys see one particular step that you’d like me to jump-forward to and “just create the damn tutorial now”… just leave a comment telling me so and I’ll see what I can do.

Here are the basic “Traffic-Getting Jumpstart™ Master Plan” steps that you should follow.

Remember, it’s knowing how to scale this out and leverage both technology and people to scale this out but everything can be done by just one person if you choose to… just don’t expect an avalanche of traffic for two hours worth of work on a site with only 10 pages in a market that no one cares about!

Always learn how to scale things out by leveraging technology and people… and pick highly competitive markets that people are actively searching for.

DO NOT USE THESE TECHNIQUES FOR SPAMMING THE SEARCH ENGINES!

There’s a fine line between using this technology  and techniques to increase your traffic… and using it to spam the hell out of the engines… don’t cross that line.

We are simply trying to increase awareness of, and increase traffic to, our sites leveraging the viral nature of blogs and web 2.0 sites and technologies.

That having been said:

Here’s my quick “2 hours or less”:

Traffic-Getting Jumpstart Master Plan

Warning: the whole social bookmarking system is no longer something I use or teach. It still has some value that I won’t bother getting into here. Just remember… don’t spend more than a few minutes of social bookmarking on any one site or page  and you should be all set.

1. Pick a market

2. Register the domain

3. Install the Free SEO Blog Software

4. Change the blog’s theme

5. Install the banner ads, affiliate program ads, etc

6. Set up the email capture and first few follow up emails

7. Add content to blog

    a. Run a social bookmarking campaign on blog with one group of bookmarking accounts logins and at different times and days.

    b. Create supporting micro-sites mini-network (social profile pages at squidoo, hubpages, bumpzee, and small static hand built sites).

    c. Run a social bookmarking campaign on your micro-sites mini-network with a different set of bookmarking logins and at different times and days.

8. Submit site to SEO friendly directories sites using directory submission services.

9. Create video

    a. Distribute video with video sharing software

    b. Run a social bookmarking campaign on the videos sharing pages.

Steps 1 – 9 are enough to jumpstart the traffic to your new blog, static website, ecommerce website… and it only takes an hour or two.

If this is a site or market that you know is worth spending additional time on then you can follow these additional steps.

The following steps don’t take that much additional time but should, and can easily be, outsourced.

10. Every month (or sooner) go back and run the social bookmarking campaign again using new social bookmarking logins at different times and days.

11. Every month (or sooner) go back and create a new micro-site or social profile page to support your micro-sites mini-network.

12. Add posts to the blog that link/pingback to other authority blogs in the market.

13. Pick specific posts on your blog that you’d like to rank higher.

    a. Social bookmark those posts with random bookmarking login accounts

    b. Create a videos specific to those posts and load to youtube

    c. Blast that video out to video sharing sites

    d. Social bookmark the videos on the video sharing sites with random bookmarking logins and at different times and days.

    e. Find other authority blogs in the market and post content-rich comments on their blog with links heading back to the post you are trying to rank higher.

You can do the following steps yourself but I would strongly recommend you simply outsource them.

14. Outsource someone to spin articles for you and submit them to directories

15. Outsource someone to create new social bookmarking login accounts

16. Outsource someone to subscribe to your RSS feed and have them social bookmark your new posts (the RSS feed notifies them when there is a new post so they simply head over.

17. Outsource someone to post high-quality, relevant comments on other people’s blogs and forums (DO NOT COMMENT SPAM). Concentrate on ones that do not use the “no follow” attribute.

18. Rinse and Repeat steps 7 – 18+ for sites that are worth the effort.

How do you know if the site is worth the effort?

I can’t answer that for you… only you can answer that question since it is your time and money involved… what is “worth it” to you may not be worth it to the next person and vice-versa.

Ask yourself this question… “does this site (sites) add money and/or value to my business versus the time and effort it takes to rinse and repeat Jeff Johnson’s Traffic-Getting Jumpstart Master Plan?”

If the answer is “yes” then continue to “rinse and repeat” steps 7 through 18 and beyond.

And do yourself a favor and reinvest your earnings into your business by outsourcing the work that takes up the most time so you can concentrate on finding new markets and making money from the traffic you have.

I’ll keep emailing you new tutorials down the road so be sure to check your inbox for updates,

Jeff Johnson

this is a new blog that contains the adsof google adsense. please send me the ideas to attract more visitors to my blog.

Jeff Johnson says: I’m sorry but there’s nothing but adsense ads on that site.

There isn’t any content from what I can see and I can’t do anything to help you promote it with free traffic without some major black hat work.

And I dont’ do that type of work, Sorry.

I’m hosting a call to personally help people next week.

If you join the call I’d be happy to answer any questions for you.

  • Jaquone Jefferson

Hi all and thanks for what you are doing here. I’d like to know when and how much will it be to have you all do this for me. 202-413-4817. Thanks and jesus is blessing us, amen.

Jeff Johnson says: You are welcome!

As far as do the work for you… stay tuned.

My staff is a well oiled machine and we do it for some of my high end coaching clients.

We will be trying to expand it into my more mainstream coaching club very soon.

    • Harprit Singh

So were you able to get an answer on this. How much will it be if I outsource it to you? or do you know any other place or company or individual whom I can outsource.

      Thanks
      Harprit Singh
Jeff Johnson: Sorry, we don’t outsource for people. Try bidding the work out on mturk.com, ifreelance.com or elance.com

  • Gary

Looking forward to what promises to be a great tutorial series Jeff.

One aspect I’d like to get a better grip on right away is finding and contracting virtual assistants.

I imagine that Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (mturk.com) is more appropriate than Elance.com et al for outsourcing a social bookmarking campaign . . . is that a resource you’d recommend?

How does Jeff Johnson Inc. find virtual assistants?

Jeff Johnson says: Yes, I use and recommend mturk for outsourcing these tasks.

And i have several tutorial about virtual staff and project management I’ll try to dig up for this site.

Stay tuned… demand has been insane this week and I need to catch up.

YOu’ll find a ton of stuff here already so feel free to poke around until then :)

  • Mitch Baldwin

    Hi Jeff,

All I can say is WOW…talk about moving the free line!

And thanks to Mike Filsaime for the heads up.

Jeff Johnson says: Mike’s a great marketer and a great friend.

    Thanks for joining us here!

Please tell all your friends :)

  • Social Buzz Master

    Great stuff Jeff…

    Thanks,

  • Bryan Ellis

Yet again, extraordinary content. Thank you very much.

  • Alex

    Hi Jeff,
I have a couple of things: How do I get in on the call. This info is awesome! I can only imagine what a live call would be like. Can you look at my blog and tell me what to do for it?

    Thanks

Jeff Johnson says: I’ll look at sites live on the webinar next week… be sure to keep an eye out for the email.

  • Mike

    Hi

Thanks for all the great tips.

I notice that Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (mturk.com) only allows users from the US. IS there a similar resource that can be used for those residing outside the US, not including eLance

    Thanks

Jeff Johnson says: Not a specific one but we use India and other countries for such work.I’ll see what I can find out and let everyone know.

  • joe

hi jeff. when you say repeat step 7 and above do you mean steps 1 thru 7?
    thanks,
    joe

Jeff Johnson says: steps 7,8,9 etc.

  • Arthur King

    Jeff,
Great information! Thanks for all of the awesome support videos. I’m looking forward to your phone call- keep up the great job!
    Arthur

  • Micheal

Cool post Jeff… I can tell you it works cuz I do it. Just time consuming and without income coming in yet, outsourcing is a mother!

Hi tajammul, are you smoking CRACK? Read this post of Jeff’s and get to work man! I can’t beleive you had the balls to post that blog asking for help. At least fill it with content and show that you did some work besides, just putting ads on it.

If it were that easy, we’d all be rich out of our minds.

Jeff Johnson says: I’m glad to see I wasn’t the only one wondering what was up with that blog of his :)

  • Hunter

I just signed up and confirmed and am now reading your email. And I’m wondering if this ONLY works for blogs or if I can use this on a membership site with 247 optimized gas saving tip pages.

    Thanks,
    Hunter
    http://www.savegasnow.org

Jeff Johnson says: Static sites work great with most of these techniques (some are blog specific). However, everyone in every market should have at least one blog set up to support their money (main site).

In fact, create a blog and post your tips one by one to it with some new content as well and link back to your static site; just make sure your blog isn’t on the same server as your website, and that you add unique content to the blog as well as your tips. ALso be sure to link out to other authority sites in your market, don’t just link to your own website every post.

  • Daniel Murray

Nice Jeff! Thanks for the free blog software. Look forward to seeing what you have planned. And thanks to John Reese (aka the main dude) for the heads up ;-)

  • Vicky

Very good ideas especially the outsourcing part. That is what I constantly have to bug my clients to do. Send me more of the mundane tasks so you can stay busy doing the important stuff.

  • Chris - Ocular Nutrition

    Jeff

Could you give a little more insite to 7.b. “Create supporting micro-sites mini-network”.

Also how do you quickly add content to a site?(Article directory content or outsourcing article creation based on topics or keyword rich search terms?) Other ideas?

    To Success!
Jeff Johnson says: micro sites are social profile pages like facebook, squidoo, hub pages, and stand alone static sites you build in minutes.

We use RSS feeds and strucutred article feeds , but that’s beyond this scope. I’ll see what I can do. but you can always hire someone to do the work.. that speeds things up :)

  • Chris S.

Seems all these work as I have used them before but the mistake is whne we do too much of a good thing and it is seen as spammy stuff to the social sites and SE.

Jeff Johnson says: Don’t spam and use technology to scale out. If you build each profile page with unique useful content you aren’t spamming in my opinion.

  • Anja Shau

I like your tips, Jeff. I started my own a few month back. Had some traffic, but now not much. Have to work on it much more. My site has a blog attached, I thought it was good, but guess I should open a new blog elsewhere and start using it.
Outsourcing is really not much done, most people are not doing it, but after the first round and when money comes your way you really should start outsource more.
Jeff your point 7b “Create supporting micro-sites mini-network” do you refer to pages on squidoo, ehow, and so on or is it something else?

Thanks for the tips, will rinse and reuse it for my own site, hope you don’t mind.

    Anja

Jeff Johnson says: yes, social profile pages can be your micro sites as well as 4 or 5 page static sites build by hand.

  • Mike Hill

    Good Lord Jeff,

Now here’s a post worth printing out..!

Much like your entire blog I assume (just found your blog).

Great, great content to say the least. Thanks for this information Jeff.

  • Michael Searles

    Wowza!
Mike Filsaime sent me over from his blog. Thanks Mike and thanks even more to you Jeff!
I’ve spent six months looking for a simple straight forward plan that will replicate the ‘big boys’ proven steps and efforts.
    In two minutes you delivered.
Now the question is – did I make it in the first fifty to register for your one-on-one support?
    Michael Searles
    CashFloodHound.com

Jeff Johnson says: Sorry, but we’ve been averaging over a hundred new sign ups an hour all week. Those first 50 have been long gone.. but great content to come and live calls.

  • Josiah

    Hey Jeff!

Lovin’ these tips. I mean, this content could be packaged into a $97+ product EASILY!

I’m going to make a list of everything here and send stuff for my outsourcers to start implementing at once.

    I have a question.

I just setup a blog thingy here:
    http://quittingmadeeasy.com/blog (using your program)

Now my main site is http://quittingmadeeasy.com/main.html

    The question is…

Would you suggest that I just buy another domain name altogether?

Or just stick with what I have.

My main goal for the blog would be to drive traffic to quittingmadeeasy not affiliate stuff so what would you suggest?

    Thanks in advance!

    Josiah ;)

Jeff Johnson says: I’d keep what you have and eventually set up another external blog to support the site as well

    Hi Jeff,
Re “just make sure your blog isn’t on the same server as your website”…..I have all my sites hosted at Hostgator. I was planning on adding the blog to a different domain but it is still hosted at the same place.

Are you saying I need to have another hosting company specially for blogs?

    Thanks for your help,
    Tamar
Jeff Johnson says: not if they are in different markets and don’t link together.

  • Turbulence Training With Rika Susan

Thanks, Jeff. You have some great advice here. I have been using many of these tips and they work. It takes time and patience, but don’t give up. You will succeed if you do your bit. If you offer quality content, folks will find your site.

  • Seduction Chronicles

Nothing really new here for me. Pretty much doing everything you’ve talked about. Good for beginners however and good luck with it.

I don’t understand why should I go through the hassles of installing Your Wordpress “blog software” if I can do it easily through my CPanel with just 3 clicks
and then just customize it with my themes and plugins.
What is ’so special’ about your WP? I’ve downloaded it and don’t see anything extra, even plugins are nothing too much, and the themes are mostly ugly. (sorry – except of course blue-zinfandel)

I have many more useful plugins on my WP sites.
And I am not even mentioning Semiologic WP template…

Jeff Johnson says: semiologic is $300. ours if free.

cpanel requires that you find the plug ins, install the plugins, configure them by hand, and find the templates.

We’ll add more plugins as needed but we wanted to keep it simple for the average user.

Our’s is designed to install quickly and saves cofiguration time in the long run.

  • Johm Mobely

    Jeff,
Precisely what do you mean by “supporting network of microsites”. Did I miss some explanation here? Or do you have some examples of these?

Jeff Johnson says: social profile pages, 4 page static sites, etc. more to come.

    Hi Jeff,

thank you for the infos and guidelines. I am totally new to this so I find it very helpful.

I have a site http://www.mytoothcaretips.com and blog http://www.toothblog.mytoothcaretips.com but they are not generating much traffic and also zero sales. So I am going to use your software and ‘revamp’ my blog.

BTW, if it’s possible can you explain more on items 7a, 7b and 7c. I do not understand what you mean and what I need to do.

    thank you

In time I will but I need to catch up first :)

  • Terry @building self esteem

Hey Jeff. What a learning experience I just had in installing the wordpress software onto my site. Had a ball, lost a lot of hair and cursed a lot but got it working. Loved it!!

My question is putting in your Point 5 the ads etc and would like to know more on that point. Do you suggest a widget or ad service for this in your software?

What threw me was when you said “install” and I assumed it may have been part of the seo wp software.

Thanks anyway, great experience and a lot of fun.

Jeff Johnson say: You can simply cut and paste the ad code into your theme. We personally use the free adserver http://www.openx.org/ to manage our ads across all servers, from one central location (actuall we have multiple ones installed to manage our ad network).

  • 366 FREE Internet Marketing Tips AND Secrets

Great post!! My only question is the 1-2 hour estimate to do all of this!! For example, 7b, how long would you budget for this? I think it would be useful to put some time estimates against each step because from experience, all this appears to take MUCH longer than you have estimated. Please let me know. Thanks, Allen

Jeff Johnson says: the first and most important steps will definitely take less than 2 hours. the others are software and outsourcing.

My guys can install a site and do the basic promotions in well under an hour.

  • Alex

    Hi

I have an image website. How do I apply these techniques to an image website where the content is images rather than info/data?

    My site is http://www.africapic.com

Jeff Johnson says: If your images have alt text, descriptions, etc… even if they don’t… building social profile pages that offer content about your market and your site will help.

  • Mark

    Hi Jeff,
Just received an email about this site and was delighted with the info you have provided.

I don’t have a problem setting up sites but always seem to struggle getting traffic so am looking forward to implementing your techniques.

As far as the micro sites go, do you suggest using the content from the blog to create the squidoo/hubpages or writing new content.

For example, I have a site http://wedding-planning-pages.info, should I simply take one of the posts such as “cheap wedding dress” and build a squidoo lens with it?

Thanks once again, I look forward to more great info.

    Mark.

    Anthony says:
Jeff recently created an excellent video that I believe will answer your question thoroughly, you can view the video about viral video distribution or how to use social profile pages and social bookmarking to dominate the search engines tutorial here: http://www.undergroundtraininglab.com/52/viral-video/

  • Lesley

    Hi Jeff

I just want to say a great big thankyou for what you are doing. I just have one question – when you talk about creating a social bookmarking campaign with different logins on different times and days. Does that mean that you have to join each of the social bookmark sites and then post to them at different times of the day.

Sorry but I have just completed my first blog today with your help and so I’m not (as you might say) with the in crowd.

    Anyway thank you so much.

    Lesley

Jeff Johnson says: the simple answer is “keep it looking random” … rotate the times of day and the accounts you post to.

  • Ed

    Jeff,

It appears that there is a great deal of assumed background knowledge that is required to implement your advice. Would it be possible to get references to credible sources of this knowledge?

You mentioned that your guys are able to install a blog, ads, affiliate links, and capture forms in less than 2 hours. Well, they do it for a living. In what I do for a living I can also get fairly complex things done in hours or even minutes, but that is backed up by 18 years of education and 20 years of experience.

Here’s an example of two hours not so well spent:
    - installation of your SEO blog package – 1 hour. This includes figuring out that “Internal Server Error” from IE has to do with the fact that my hosting service hosts databases and websites on different servers;
    - getting rid of “just another SEO weblog from Jeff Johnson” subtitle – 1 hour. Yes, it is under Settings->General, if you know where to look :) . But if you don’t and you randomly poke around the website to figure it out and you also try to go through the theme code to figure out where it comes from it can easily take even longer.

Some other examples of things that are not obvious to people like myself who are new to blogging:

    - what different areas on the generated blog mean (e.g. i3Theme), what the significance of them is, and how to modify them;
    - whether or not links to Silver Cross Jewelry etc. are required on a blog that has no relevance to jewelry (as a reward the theme designer perhaps?), and how to remove them if they are not;
    - what elements of the theme have to do with SEO and how to modify the ones that don’t, e.g. replace graphics with ones more relevant to the blog content;
    - how to modify the PHP script to add affiliate links, forms, banners, etc.

    The list goes on.

The point is certainly not to complain – that would have been absurd, especially considering the fact that your offering is free – but to request references to sources of background knowledge necessary to actually make a realistic attempt to implement this.

A learning curve is alright, even if it takes 2 months instead of 2 hours – no need to oversimplify what it takes. What would really help is having information to study and learn, instead of spending time on attempts to figure things out based purely on random guesswork. This would add tremendous value to your training, particularly for the unexperienced.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Jeff Johnson says: Yes, there is the assumption of some basic knowledge or the user’s willingness to learn. I’m definitely offering a huge shortcut with the software and the tutorials but we can’t cover everything and still get my work done.

I’d say we’ve done a great job so far… and we’ve only just started.

I’ll keep adding content and hopefully it will be enough at some point.

  • Bhakti

    Hi Jeff,
If I use your software, can I use other theme provided out there? ex: I want to use WP Premium (http://cssace.com/free-wp-premium-theme-is-here/) its Free and nice. Can I do that?

    Anthony says:
Yes, you can use other themes, but do remember themes themselves have SEO features as well, so different themes do effect the overall optimization.

Very informative. Thanks for the guidance.

    Jeff,

There’s a lot to this program. I can’t keep up with it but I keep plodding along. It seems like a great program, but I refuse to stick to one program so I guess I deserve to be behind the 8 ball. I get a bunch of advertisements for programs, yours being only one, and I subscribe to some of them thinking I will go with the program from start to finish, but I always get interrupted. Anyway I will keep plodding along, but it doesn’t look like I ‘ll be able to keep up. Thanks for the opportunity.

  • Marc Fisher

    Hi Jeff,
I wonder what the best way to set up the wordpress email capture you mention in your masterplan.
I only have found a commercial solution ($97),
Is there a free wp plug-in to do the job ?

Jeff Johnson says: I simply link to an optin form form each page.

that way I can test the different headlines and see which one gets the most clicks.

dead ebay store page I have scrapped and have been looking for ways to market
it. Will your method outlined work. Independently or combined with the nichestore?

Example: if my store is about dog beds…

should I have a blog with content surrounding different dog beds and choosing
the right one., maintenace etc and point it back to the ebay store?? or is it

better to incorporate the store with the blog? just so confused. Or just go hard with the content on the blog and reference the ebay store ?please
    help…SOS

ps. I was soooo happy you put this training in writing. I always replay your
videos, you talk tooo fast. lol. Either that or I am toooo slow.

thanks I really appreciate you and your efforts..

    Vashti

Jeff says: start a blog that links to your store.

  • vashti

    Jeff,

I have a dead ebay niche store with no traffic. will your method work as a combination of blog and store or should I create a content blog that points to my store.

I have nothing on the store page right now. Wanted to have an dea before mocing forward.

I am trying to start a sample case and scale it from there. thanks for all your info.

Yes, you can taget ebay stores with my techniques.

    Jeff,
When setting up accounts for social bookmarking the email accounts do you have an account for each bookmarking account or do you create an email account for the list of bookmarking accounts then start over with another email account then go through the list again etc?

    Thanks,
    rick

Jeff Johnson says: We use different emails for each group of accounts we create.

  • Tamar

Thanks for your reply Jeff. I had been thinking to put my blog for a particular domain on the same server with a small link down the bottom of my squeeze page to make the site look bigger and more dynamic. Are you’re saying that I should have the blog for this domain on a different server?

    Thanks for your help

Hi, any advice is always appreciated especially from those with a track record. I’m an oddity having been in advertising and semi-retired at 60, I have the yachts and homes abroad but work in the property business where I do it all wrong: I spend my own money and have no debts. Occassionally there are”hickups” that test one’s nerve. Hence I am looking at starting an e-bus., most likely as an affiliate initially; earn and learn. I’ve spent a month on research but having been a lecturer this is always ongoing due to market forces. Your site has proved most helpful, but as there are problems with video downloads and they tie one to the screen, could you please have pdf. transcripts available so that one can read and digest at more convenient times as everyday business prevents watching due to time constraints and impatience. Recordings and MP3s do not work for me as being an Architect I think visually and in more than one language. Somthing I can pick up and refere to at need is most useful.

Many thanks keep up the good work.

Many thanks, Colin Rose (UK & France)

    Hi Jeff,

Love your free software and many thanks.

Any recommendations of other ‘Themes” to use for your software?

How do you add the RSS feeds….with plugin? or do you use a script?

How about adding Data Feeds from affiliate sites?

Your guys are top notch in the training…. what services are you going to offer for folks wanting to really get things going?

    Thanks…keep it hot!

I love this software – it took the guesswork out of what I needed to do to create my blog. I would love more information on creating microsites for Facebook, MySpace, and etc. Is the content on these sites supposed to be completely differant or can you post the same information (posts) that you are using on your blog?

  • Bridge

    Hi J eff,
You are a God- sent. Just when I was at my lowest ( my computer crashed and I had to change my hard drive losing more than a few hundreds of dollars of programs that I hoped to use someday, and other saved stuff) you are giving me for free what I was looking for.
With what you have given me here there will be no need for me to spend another cent for any thing in the near future.

    Thank you

  • 366 FREE Internet Marketing Tips AND Secrets

    Hi,

I dont want to get into an argument with you about how long things take to do but I do want to make a couple of points. I am a great fan of outsourcing too but I decided to put the stop watch on myself for a recent launch of my new blog for http://www.tellafriendzy.com (brand new tell a friend application). Here’s what I found:

    1. I registered with around 30 social bookmarking sites. This took me 3 hours. I realize that once these are set up, they don’t need to be done again, but if you’re just starting out, then it is a necessary task.

    2. I created a squidoo page and a blogger page, these took me 30 minutes apiece.

I guess my point is that there a lot of ‘newbies’ on the block and I think experienced marketers, and after 10 years online, I include myself in that group, need to be as clear about these things as we possibly can. You are obviously a very honest person so I think it would benefit a lot of people if you set out time estimates against each individual step. I have just published my ‘blog launch’ formula and I have done exactly that.

Sorry to be a pain and please keep up the good work.

    All the very best, Allen

  • Mike

Is the download page “down” already? Can’t download any application. Oh well, I’ve been on rides just like this before, building people’s lists’ based on promises that just never materialize.

Judging from the number of people who were successful, this may not be the case, however, a simple warning may have stopped this comment.

Ya’ll have fun now, ya hear?

Jeff Johnson says: Sorry, but it sounds like an issue with your browser or ISP.

Not only is the download available, we’ve updraded it several times for free.

And the newest version is being released tomorrow.

  • Tony

Gota say Jeff, this is something else.

OK without sounding like a ‘Me to’ groupie, this stuff really works.
First thing to do is take action and follow Jeffs lead.
Within one hour of bookmarking my blog entry, google had indexed my digg in position 3. Less than 24 hours later my blog entry was in position 1 and my digg entry at position 3.
I can’t believe I have leap frogged all my competitors in such a short space of time.
I am ready to take action, are you?

  • Nicole

    Jeff,

Your tutorials are really useful and the strategies seem really logical. You mentioned that a good strategy is to outsource as many tedious tasks as possible (ie. bookmarking multiple videos, etc.) Where could I find someone to outsource to who will do a good job?

Check with your friends and neighbors, that’s what I’ve always done. find someone that already surfs the net and pay them to do your thing along the way.

  • emce2

This is good stuff. Just taking action has not only got me indexed but some TRAFFIC and clicks for adsense.

I wonder though if there is a easy way to make a wordpress blog look like a static site? If so how could this be done with a blog in the back ground?

    Keep rocking Jeff

  • Marco

This is wonferful traffic generation strategy and marketing information. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again!

I have successfully installed your seo-blog and followed your traffic jumpstart plan but I sort of got stuck on step 5 whith the installation of the affiliates promotional material… a banner does not fit in the side boxes and if I enter my affiliate material as a comment… well it will eventually be pushed out of sight by other comments.

I have used wordpress before and I placed banners in the footer file and made custom header graphic about the product for the header file. When I opened those files in your seo-blog I could not figure out how to work with it. It seems to get the header and footer cofe from some other server (?).

What do I have to do to enter my affiliate promotion material in a permanent manner in the header and/or footer?

    Thanks you very much.
    Marco

    Anthony Montalbano says:
To add any affiliate promotion material to your blog installation you will need to know how to modify headers/footers and add to sidebars. A suggestion, use sidebar widgets to copy and paste code to your promotional material to place it on the sidebar. To add content to your headers and footer you have to copy and paste code in your header.php and footer.php file of the current theme you are using. Adding content to your header and footer is for experienced users only.

  • Money Ideas

    Hi Jeff

I have been using videos to promote my site but I simply add a the main url at a corne of the video.
You say to pick our best posts, create a video for each of them, upload the videos to different video sites and finally submit the videos to social bookmarking sites.

Now let say that you want to promote this post.
    http://www.undergroundtraininglab.com/48/traffic-getting-jumpstart/
Since the URL is too long, you can’t add a watermark, right? Then how?
Also what would the video be about?

Jeff Johnson says: All you need to do is to regster a domain that redirects to the proper site with the long url.

The video would talk about whatever the post is about… this great free report.. look at how much info he gives away for free… visit domain.com to grab your free copy

I do it all the time for affiliate promotions that pay well

  • Hunter

    Jeff,

So, I created a new directory and installed the software, changed the theme and did a couple changes BEFORE I made my way back here.

Re-reading your reply to post #12 (and now seeing how some of the strategy fits together) I realize that I really want my blog on a different server! I have a few other sites but only http://www.standandunite.com fits with this gas saving blog theme.

Now I notice that I only have one MySQL db available with this account and that is already being used for the Joomla db.

My question is, can I piggy back on top of this db (use the same one)? Or even better, can I keep the db that I created at http://www.SaveGasNow.org and simply move the directory to the other server?

I know you’re swamped… I’d really appreciate an answer though.

    Thanks,
    Hunter

    Anthony Montalbano says:
Yes, you can use the same DB as your joomla installation. When modifying the Wordpress wp-config.php file, you may want to change the table prefix to something unique other than “wp_”. Changing this prefix will also work with multiple installations of the blog package as well.

  • Sylvester

    Hi Jeff,

Your software works great, already have 2 blogs up. You asked what tutorials would be useful. I would like to have a tutorial on how to place banners and ads on the blog.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Wealth Through Wellbeing

    Hi Jeff,

Great that you have the commenters listed on the front page of your blog!
    Another traffic generator haha.
By the way there is a little bug in the tags that make one keyword bigger than the others. I looks strange but is not a real problem.

Thanks for helping me get a good site up.

    Anthony Montalbano says:
A tag cloud is a block of keywords where the larger the keyword is, the more posts made are related to that keyword. This isn’t a bug, this is how tag clouds work. This allows you to see what topics (keywords) are more consistent throughout your blog.

  • anti

Does SEO software send pings automatically or does it have to be set up?

Jeff Johnson says: automatically when posting

  • Wealth Through Wellbeing

    Hi Anthony,

I agree on that but in my case too many keywords were a little too big, The whole page then got out of shape and was difficult to read. Thus i had to remove some keywords.

If i have the Tag cloud removed as a widget, would that have any negative results SEO wise?

Jeff Johnson says: you can always use the “post slug” featuer in WP to shorten the url and removing the tag cloud, depending on the version and theme you are using, may or may not have seo consequences.
the newer versions of WP are tagged by technoarti using the keyword tags in the post itself.

The newest version of the free seo blog software has a new plug in that adds keywords as tags automatically sothe engines will find them.

  • Tom Makela

Just want to say hi to you Jeff.

I have been listening and reading about your tactics and suggestions in the past, but as many others I think think that I have the problem of “follow threw” and like to try to take shortcuts.

Maybe I have too many projects “running at once”, and want them all to succeed.

Well I am really going to try to skip the shortcuts this time on my latest project and just concentrate on it to see if your suggestions may help me to build up my “news site about poker in Asia”. You will already see me at the top 10 “poker news asia” in google. Guess my domain name helps a lot.

I have read 90% about these and similar steps from many other sources but never actually made the effort to do them ALL for one project.

One of the “outside tips” that I have read about is to basically concentrate on and optimizing for “MSN/Yahoo” and your site will sooner or later be picked up by Google and thus getting even more power than just trying to optimize only for google. What is your thoughts about that?

So thanks for this free info and keep the suggestions coming.

    // TomYam
    Poker-News.Asia

Jeff Johnson says: I would never just optimize or msn or yahoo and hope google picks me up.

I’d optimize for the one I think has the type of user base I’m targeting.

For example, msn is used more by office workers during the day… so if I was targeting them I’d concentrate on MSN for one of my sites related to the topic.

But the fact is google reaches 80% of all internet users so you can’t ignore the sheer volume of their traffic.

Build a site for google, and then build on for msn and one for yahoo, or optimize certain aspects of your interior pages for the specific search engines and use just one site.

  • 7 Tips for Beginners for Building Blog Traffic

Hi Jeff n all … this subject is my main concern thanks Jeff for leading the way forward here with social networking/bookmarks … I think if you the poster put yourself in front of your desired outcome prospect by acting like the subscriber – searcher – buyer – that your goal is posting to attract, who will be clicking towards your site for the first time … where, how, what, would your prospect see to tempt them to even click …. And the biggest why! Would you/they want to stay? More than it takes to click that mouse!

Searchers surfers remind me of a hair trigger – (a gun trigger that responds with little pressure) there clicking finger is twitching and usually is leading there eye brain and it’s very twitchy unless you are attracting the same mindset that you intend to serve! …

SO the best way forward is to be totally honest with your self …. how many times have you clicked away from a good info source not knowing why you did click away … sort of in a misty trance like state if you understand what Jeff has outlined very well here ….

Welcome to the real world of the internet

All my best to you and your conversions

    Jeff
I registered for the free software, etc. that you offered in your email. However, when I go to the download page I am requested to supply a Username and Password. When I registered I provided my name and email address (which are clearly not the same thing). How does one get around this problem – i.e. how the heck do I geta username and password?!!!

Jeff Johnson says: The email that has the link to download the free seo software also has the username and password in it; that’s the only way I send out… download link and password together.

    Please check your email again.

  • Dave Mez

How much should I be charging to have someone get backlinks for me by posting on other authority blogs? How long should it take per post, and how many words? Is 150-200 enough or more than enough? Thanks :)

    Jeff Johnson says:

    that depends on the market.

I get unsolicited offers willing to pay me $25 for a link in a single post with no extra writing on my part.

150 words is more than enough.

that means they must be willing to pay a lot more!

  • Noob

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the free SEO Blog software. I’ve installed it successfully.

Sorry if this may sound silly, I still can’t figure out how this SEO Blog is different from the usual wordpress blog. I mean, if I were to apply all the methods stated above to jumpstart my traffic to my normal wordpress blog, how would the traffic be different or rather better when using the SEO Blog? Which features of this SEO Blog “expedite” traffic?

I’ve only been in Internet Marketing for about 5 months, so forgive me if this question is not appropriate.

Awaiting your response. Thanks very much.

Jeff Johnson says: The free version of my seo blog version is still better than the standard wordpress.

But if you know what you are doing and have the time you could do the same.

It also helps save significant time on post-installation configuration of the plug-ins.

The SEO Blog Software Professional Edition actaully has even more power including exclusive plugins, and we teach you how to use rss feeds and data feeds for content… not to mention the personal traffic-getting training from me.

  • Le

Thanks for this post, finally I have a step by step guide to drive traffic. Valueable stuffs.

  • Phil Good

    Jeff.

    Great Content as usual.

Quick question relating to multiple login accounts to social media sites…

Some social media sites are down right now as they attempt to clean up what they call spam account…AKA..almost everyone in IM is doing that.

Seeing as social media is about creating relationships, albeit shortlived with other social media readers etc…doesn’t it make sense to have just about 5 high PR sites to play with, have multiple posts to them as opposed to random posts to any of the social media sites in a bid to get high ranking backlinks?

I’m a bit torn on this concept…I have this niggling feeling the links will be shortlived before they’re removed and the guru status of the site back into the dumpster…

    Your thoughts please….

    Phil Good.

Jeff Johnson says: One account is fine, I just teach multiple for people that want multiples.

we use automated software to rotate our multiple accounts so it isn’t a burden, but if you do it by hand… just use one.

    Hello Jeff,
I have a few questions regarding the ATM software.

    1. Wouldn’t there be a problem with duplicate content when I use the data feeds from Amazon and CJ via ATM? (I am planning to use these feeds on my money site, so I want to make sure that I don’t mess it up)

    2. In case articles have to be written for each of these feeds, how many words should be sufficient? 100 words? 250 word articles?

    3. Can you share any other strategies that would make the usage of these data feeds safe and profitable without being penalized by the Big G.

    Thanks,
    Vijay

Jeff Johnson says: Don’t just build sites with the feeds, add in your own posts and articles; 250 words – 500 words for a post or article will do.

You’ll find “how to use” instructions in the atm pro tutorials.

You’ll find “how to use more effectively from a traffic standpoint” in my coaching club.

  • David

Hi Jeff, I have install the blog and have been using your suggested techniques. I am seeing lots of new rankings. One BIG question though. I saw a comment that you should not put the blog on the web site you are promoting. Well, thats the way I set it up. I have the blog on the same domain just in a folder called blog. Will this cause any problems???

Jeff Johnson says: On the same domain, no. On the same server on a different domain, yes, it could.

  • Scotty Mack

Once again, another series of great tips, Jeff. I really appreciate all of the advice!

I only wish I had the money to outsource things … maybe someday …

  • Vijay

Thanks for the reply Jeff. Were you suggesting 250 to 500 word articles to be mixed along with the data feeds or separately?

I already have around 100+ articles in my money site. I was wondering if you suggest a ratio or mix (eg 1 feed for every 2 original posts? or anything like that).

I hope I am making sense here.

Jeff says: I think at least one to one if good, more unique than feeds is even better.

But we have luck with 100% feeds.. but I do NOT recommend it for most people.

  • Jeff

Thanks for the well laid out plan.

I have several Joomla sites. Can you do the same types of things with Joomla as you can with wordpress?

Jeff Johnson says: Yes, and no. Wordpress is easier to use, but joomla has plenty of options available. we use both.

  • Susan at Most Wanted Toy

    Hi Jeff,
Thank you for sharing this valuable information.

I have some questions regarding your private coaching program:

Is it possible to upgrade to WDIFY when I buy the only electronic version now?

Is it possible to reserve one slot in the WDIFY for one month until Jan. 16 because I am very much interested in purchasing it but do not have the resources right now?

When you offer a more mainstream version of the coaching program, will you also offer a limited version of the WDIFY?

    Susan

Jeff Johnson says: Unfortunately WDIFY is very, very labor intensive for my guys… they have to service you.. so we severly limit the seats available at any one time so we can’t “reserve” seats.

But if you are a member of my club, we give you first crack when any new seats open up.

As for a lower priced “WDIFY” option down the road… not for what they currently get; It’s too low as it is and we serisouly considered shutting it down before this launch.

  • Abdul

I like this program, i like to have it inorder to make money online for the first time but sadly enough for me I cannt afford it.

  • Jenna

    Dear Jeff -
I’m sure you get asked this all the time, but I am so eager to join your program, however when I was disabled with sever Lyme disease 2 years ago and the mortgage industry crashed just after that (my husband was a very successful mortgage broker) we lost our 65 acre horse farm, our commercial building in town, our vehicles and went through bancruptcy. I have been a successful enterpreneur in my past life, and it really irks me that I am unable to afford a solid program like yours to turn our finances around and so that we could afford medicine (insurance covers a fraction of what I need) We are living on social security disability but we still can’t make ends meet. So we went from 30K each month to $1600/mo (and $300/mo in affiliate income using my ebooks.

    Would you consider a scholarship?

    Sincerely,

    Jenna

Jeff Johnson says: I’m sorry to hear about your situation and I’m sure it will improve!

I put one of my former students, who suffered from lymes disease, to work with a friend of mine. And I just found out he’s still working for him 2 years later!

    As for a scholarship…. I can’t help everyone personally, I wish I could, but I can’t.

We only have so many hours in the day to provide support for our clients.

But we do love to give back to the community…

We are very active in charitable causes and just last week sponsored 4 local family Christmases, donated to the local Children’s hospital, and we recently sponsored a local ALS walk.

Plus $2,000 to autism, $1,000 to the local PTA and we volunteer our time at the local schools and with boy scouts and girl scouts.

As for the internet marketing market… the content I give away for free is more than enough to get you started.

It won’t fill in all the holes for you, but it certainly helps.

There are at least 56 video tutorials on this blog.

    I hope this helps.

  • Alex

Hi! I am working on a website, (a social networking of some sort) and was thinking about the value for the people more than how to make money out of it…. actually I have no ideea how I will get revenue, besides some google ads,as a matter of fact I don’t want to put many ads in there, I want the site to look as “pro” as it gets, do you have any ideeas for a project like this? thanks.

PS: Great stuff you sharing, it’s a lot of work in it everybody should apreciate it for what is worth.

Jeff Johnson says: Sorry, but you really shouldn’t build a site unless you have a clear path to profitabliity before you start.

Once you start you may have to adjust your course, but at least have a plan upfront.

Other than that, your description is a little to vague to help with.

  • Marcel Heersema

    Great stuff here Jeff!

Just wanted to say to all:

Make sure you put great content and videos out there, cause what you really want is that the ‘people’ take over what you started.

I mean, if you have great content, you get the ball rolling with this and then it should get rolling faster when other people start to bookmark as they like your content.

    Regards Marcel

    Hi Jeff,

How do you know if a Blog is using the “no follow” attribute for their comments?

    Thanks!

Jeff Johnson says: View the source code of the comments page and look for the no follow attribute. Or use the software that’s available.

  • Rich

Hi Jeff, and to all who hand a hand in the blog software thank you . I love adding to it and making changes. Can you clear something up for me ? How do you pingback your blog? Do you make a post on another blog and add your blog address to your comments. Not sure how this really works.

    Thank You
    Rich

Jeff Johnson says: there’s a video about that somewhere on my blogs, but I can’t remember where.

Basicallly, just include the permalink to a blog post in your own blog post and the software does the rest.

  • Jay

    Hi Jeff

Thanks for the great tips. A few points. Do you recommend any specific directory submission services? I’ve tried a few in the past and when I checked couldn’t see their links. They didn’t charge a lot so I didn’t complain.

Also I’ve tried a few SEO blogs, One blog was I started was getting great traffic from Google (150 searches per day) but then it suddenly stops with no searches… then Google starts sending traffic again. So far the blog has over 40 backlinks showing. Does this suggest that Google thinks there is a problem with the blog? Thanks in advance.

Jeff Johnson says: Nope, google listings fluctuate all the time, especially in the beginning.

    Hi Jeff,

Got this in my email box yesterday and what can i say. This is pure gold and at last a KNOWN MARKETER giving away something of real value.

My mind was buzzing with ideas last night and i cannot wait to implement this strategy.

I must say that i was so pleased to receive this that i Twittered my small following with alink to check it out and i also did a video of your site showing this idea and posted it on my blog at http://www.internetmarketingtestlab.com.

Thanks for sharing such great info at no cost.

    All the best

Jeff Johnson says: Thanks for the plug, I really appreciate it!

    Hi Jeff,

I have tried over and over again to upload the free blog software to my sever but two big files woud just not finish transferring.

I also tries to upload them alone to the appropriate directory and it didn’t help.

    Now, i’m feeling very helpless.

I don’t even mind paying if someone could help me get pass this level.

Jeff Johnson says: Sorry, but we don’t hire out on a per job basis.

But if you are a private coaching client the just submit a request in the support forums and the guys will hook you up.

Or, try a new FTP program like filezilla or cuteftp, or try making adjustments to your ftp proxy if your firewall has one.

Jeff, thanks for the awesome traffic blueprint and the unreserved sharing of your techniques. Could you help to highlight which steps in particular are more relevant only to blogs and not static sites?

Just a word of caution on the last blog comment about directory submissions. Beware of unprofessional submission service providers out there who claims to submit to high PR directories. I’ve personally experienced a provider who submitted to many local ONLY directories, and other requiring reciprocal links. Such ’submissions’ naturally are rejected upfront and provides zero backlink effectiveness.

  • Di

Hope this is OK but I have been involved with coaching VA’s for 9 years.

There is a totally free site in the UK that lists experienced VA’s by skill and location. They are business people and know exactly what they are doing. Again – you can check them out free, then if you like someone you can contact them direct. I have been a co-owner since 2000 and the site will always be this way.

You can get cheaper VA’s but it depends on what you mean by the term. All of these have been going for a very long time and have testimonials to prove it.

    Thanks for everything Jeff.

Hi Jeff. I always take most guru’s advice with a pinch of salt. However, ever since I joined your mailing list you have done nothing but give me fantastic tips and advice that has already worked its magic on more than one client’s site. Thank you.

Jeff where do you do your outsourcing? Mturk does not allow you to promote sites. Every time I put a hit on there to have people social bookmark my site it gets removed. They are threatening to kick me out of the program so I have to stop. Is there anywhere else to get work done for that cheap or close to it.
I have been using your technique for a while now from a video I saw of yours it was a filmed seminar. I have to say that the techniques work great they just require constant upkeep. The social bookmarking sites deliver traffic in bursts. I want to outsource my work but don’t have a ton of money to do it with. I am hoping to look overseas but have no experience whatsoever in this. I was hoping maybe you could point me in the right direction. I know India is a good place for this but I can’t just pick up the phone and call India or look in the Yellow Pages.
    Thanks in advance

Jeff Johnson says: MTurk has changed their TOS… they don’t allow us some of the tasks we used to use them for.

They were the cheapest “per unit” provider I was aware of.

Now we use freelance sites http://www.ifreelance.com and elance to pick up the slack for low cost “english speaking” workers.

I use indian programmers and have SEO help but none of them are cheap.

My best outsourcing referral source has always been through friends, family and existing employees.

Good basic information that I immediately put to use. Thanks, and looking forward to more of your useful insight.

    Jeff:

Great content…very helpful…and very refreshing to find marketer that actually gives away useful info for free and one who is not giving away fluff only to get people to spend money. Preciate cha!

Anyway, in your steps you talk about creating social bookmarking accounts (logins, passwords). I understand that part. What I don’t get is, when I go to SocialMarker.com, their program allows you to submit to the SB sites without a login. Am I looking at this the wrong way? Is that the correct site that I suppose to be going to? Please advise. Thanx in advance.

Jeff Johnson says: Last I knew they required a log in once they star the submission process for you. They take you to the log in page and then you log in.

  • Jim

    Hey Jeff,
You’ve laid out a great plan. I am in the process of implementing it now and will let you know how i make out. Regarding Step # 8, submitting your site to SEO friendly Directories. Can you make some recommendations on which Directories you like? Preferably the FREE ones ;-)

I look forward to meeting someday….all the best….ray

Jeff Johnson says: I use a paid service. But if you search google for free ones I’m sure you’ll find them.

  • Melvin

    Jeff:

After i have done all of these steps, is there a need for me to ping each of the properties?

Jeff Johnson: Don’t worry, the software does it for you automatically.

    Hey Jeff,

Great post and great information. I was guided by one of the guru’s in the industry to put my wordpress blog on my main website as the first page, so I did.

I was hoping you could elaberate on what you said about hosting your blog on a different server, as this seems to be in conflict with what I was told.

Yhansk again for all your insight and the free plugin

Jeff Johnson: Actually, I always suggest a blog on your main site. I also recommend adding more blogs to your network in any given market on different servers so you can link between them.

More chances to be found by the engines and to give your own sites incoming link love :)

    Dear Jeff Johnson,
Thanks for this post it is incredible and I not read anything so clear and concise before. I think I may print this one out. In-fact maybe I print some of the previous posts out. You truly are awesome. I noticed the Squidoo thingy, Hubpages are very good too.

Also I got the plugin about a week ago mentioned it to a friend who wants a copy for his server. I don’t have a domain yet can I use Facebook or CC + Blogspot, or wordpress.com?

Jeff Johnson: Sorry, but it has to be an installed copy of wordpress on a domain, not wordpress.com hosted blogs.

  • Krish

Nice pos. I like it. Thanks.

  • Tom

I’ve tried to install the plugin, but it says that it requires Wordpress 2.7. I have 2.8! I don’t need to downgrade , do I?

Jeff Johnson: Sounds like you have the old TGSP. Download the newest version and you’ll be fine

That was a very very nice article to jumpstart a blogging career. However, it is not plain simple. At least, after this, try to learn more about the game of blogging and master few tricks to get a steady income. It doesn’t come overnight but after putting some effort on the table. It’s worth.

Hi Im From Indonesia, can you review my site…..
and for my question is, what kind social media site are you prefered for this action ( digg, stumble, reddit…or all…..but so many of them)…..

Thanks for traffic getting pluggin and this worderfull post very helpfull……

Jeff Johnson: Sorry, but I only review sites for my coaching clients… it’s a question of time… something that’s worth more than gold to me :)

Digg and stumble upon have great built in traffic due to their popularity, but I prefer to mix them all up and use them all.

  • Ed Baker

    Hi Jeff,
Really appreciate your dedication and I have learned LOTS from you already. Trying to raise the funds to join your coaching club. In 15 days I have 8 of the top 10 rankings for Google. Granted it’s a small market but it’s a start.

Question: It appears in the Change Theme Video Wordpress.com management tool is used. I was under the impression you used WP.Org management system. It would help me at least to have training videos in the same format as I use.

Jeff Johnson: Please include a link to the video you are talking about.

  • Ed Baker

    Hi Jeff,

Yes, here is the Video link to “changing themes”:
    http://www.undergroundtraininglab.com/3/change-seo-wp-theme/

The dashboard displayed is not similar to my WP.org dashboard, so; is it the WP.com dashboard or some yet unknown plugin to me?

It seems easier to work with but I’m a bit confused as I am fairly new to WP, with just 2 blogs so far. Thanks, Ed

Jeff Johnson: That’s a pre wp 2.8 dashboard. It’s a little outdated but the mechanics are the same.

I just requested that the guys make a new one.

If you are using wp 2,8+ then simply look under “Appearance” and then “themes” to change your theme.

  • Ed Baker

As I said, I am fairly new to WP but the dashboard appearance had me wondering. Thanks for the clarity.

I had already figured it out anyway and am considering an altogether different them than any of the basic ones. You had indicated in previous posts other WP themes should not be a problem with your SEO software. Now back to the experiments!! lol. Thanks again, Ed

  • SH

    Hi Jeff
I’ve read your blog post with great interest and tried to put it in to practice but seem to be going round in circles. The niche I’m in is very small and so in theory it should be really easy to get to the top of the search engines but the only thing I seem to be able to do is the article sites where I can have a backlink on my keyword. I have videos to post but the video sharing sites don’t seem to let me put links in my descriptions on the keywords I need. I’ve tried to do blog posts but there aren’t any nofollow ones in my niche – Comment Kahuna and DoFollow Diver come back with nothing. I’ve emailed tonnes of relevant sites to try and swap links and after 2 months have had very few replies. I’ve tried setting up info pages on the likes of hubpages but it’s having little effect on my main site’s rankings even though I’ve used links on my keyword. I’ve now been told that Google is starting to give little weight to these anyway because everyone is using them for search engine optimisation and as they’re very easy to get links on, Google doesn’t see them as a true representation of the value of a site any more. Same with the bookmarks. The RSS feeds seem to really work but again, there only seems to be point to doing it on my article site submissions as those are the only places I’ve been able to have a link on my relevant keyword. It’s really frustrating! My task from my client is to get their site to the top of the search engines on their chosen keyword but every avenue I try becomes a dead end. Any advice you can give on where I go from here would be hugely appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!!

Jeff Johnson: This isn’t something I can teach in a blog comment. But rss feeds to the article is fine, and building your own feeder site network is still working for us. And diretory submissions are still useful, but not nearly as powerful for incmoing links.

But there are tons of places that you can use for incoming links. SImply do a link analysis for a competitor pages and see where they have links popping up.

YOu’d be amazed how many site can give you free links to your own.

  • Jason

    Hey Jeff,
As always-great content and info-especially for f.ree! Your linking strategy not only works, but it works very well! I also love your seo plugin, it has done wonders for my rankings of my blog!
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • Jetsgirl

I’m really needing some direction Jeff, Ive been affiliate marketing, and working alone building sites, some aff product sites, some hobby sites etc, done a real lot of writing, I do a REAL lot of social networking, build many groups, sites etc. Im an idea person, a take action person, and a do’r now the problem Im experiencing, -or think I am is Im only one person, Im wanting to do other things such as product creation and expanding, now is that bad? Im thinking yes in a sense because like I said Im one person, and cannot possibly keep up with what I currently have on the go- let alone what I WANT to do. Its frustrating because sometimes an idea will hit me, that I swear, I know would work in our industry but Im held back by current projects, and sometimes think its best to go with my idea and scrap everything on the go. thats risky no? I know I need to find others to work with, how can I go about this, and be smart about it? Im just new at this business so sometimes I think I should just sit back and absorb for a year or so, but then….that marketers urge hits! what do I do? whats your advice Jeff?

Jeff Johnson: pick one project and stick with it unitl it is complete before moving to the next one.

Creating your own products should be the main goal of anyone entering this business, and affiliate marketing is a great way to learn how things work, and which products convert well.

Don’t wait a year, just apply what you know now to get started.

Take action and complete that action and you’ll be more productive.

  • Leah aka thriftgirl62

It’s hard out here for the honest IM’er and more than once, I’ve been glad Big Daddy pays the bills.

I could be Jetsgirl’s TWIN and it’s been 3 years of lots of fun, yes … Here’s my excuse – Yes, I did think of a good one!

I didn’t find resources like this until just this past year…and I hear alot of people say they wish they had what you have when they started out.

And that’s what I’m saying to you, Jetsgirl…you are one of the lucky ones… Now if only you KNEW what the 1 project is… how do you know you found it so you WILL get started and let the rest pass by, things change daily!

  • Leah aka thriftgirl62

You can just think of me as your new Volunteer Error Finder. . . . we all wish we had these errors to make…perfection is over-rated and unnatural.

“You Get Paid up to $1,00.00 per sale now. ”

Did one of the Zeros move out OR did the number 1 find a friend named , (comma)?? LOL

Jeff Johnson: thanks, I’ll have my guys hunt that mistake down and fix it!

  • Leah aka thriftgirl62

This is strange…did you get comment #148 or did it blow up on the way in?

  • Robert Eckert

Jeff ,I need a little advice on private lable rights and the best possible way to promote these types of ebooks.

I incorporated my blog in my main sales page or product page.Which is linked together. My traffic is slowly rising with the help of google adwords but as you know this is very costly when you target the wrong keywords.

What is your suggestions? On Linking your blog to your product or service from the main sales page mini-website.So you post tips and techniques from the ebook onto your blog.

So your visitor’s or prospects get a feel of what their about to read or see.Your comments appreciated.

    Robert Eckert

Jeff Johnson: A blog on your primary site is always a good idea.

Post excerpts from your ebook to your blog for short articles.

    Collect emails.

Work your primary and secondary keywords into your posts.

Use the Traffic Getting SEO Plugin to help with your blog optimization.

  • Roxie Boyd

How do I disable the Tag generator? I don’t need 50 unrelated tags per post. I wouldlike to generate my own tags.

Also, I noticed that my articles are being cut off, and when I click on them I am taken to a page that only shows the first paragraph of the article. Where did the rest of the article go?

Jeff Johnson: you can deactivate the autotag plugin itslef, or uncheck the box for it when you are writing the post itself.

Also, I believe that if you enter your own tags when writing the post, it will only use your tags, but I could be wrong about that.

As for the article, I have no idea what’s going on with that since I’ve never really seen it before. Try deactivating the plugin and see if the articles work. If so, you’ll have to either reactivate each one to see if it affects the article; then you’ll be able to tell which plugin is causing the issue.

  • beachcomber

    Hi all,
What a clever lot you all are.
I enjoyed reading the post but must admit that I didn’t understand a word of it. LOL
I know that anyone that can do that in two hours must have about 12 arms. LOL
I’ve been ‘online marketing’ – aka ‘losing money’ for 5 years and still have no idea what a bookmark site is for and am not smart enough to even contemplate RSS.
Good luck to you all – I think I’ll just stick with the simple stuff – that I know.

  • Bob Crawford

    Great post Jeff.

I was wondering about a reply you made to someone else above… you mentioned something about not having your sites linking to each other on the same server. I only have one hosting account and have 10 or 11 domains on it. Is this hurting me?

    Peace, Bob

Jeff Johnson: Not necessarily. Just don’t link between them excessively. What’s excessively.. only google knows. I’d say don’t link between them more than once or twice and you should be safe, but not linking between them at all is the best rule to follow.

  • Laura

Jeff. I have downloaded your SEO software and a lot of other information, but I cannot get it to open. It is .php format and I do not know what to do.

    Hi Jeff!
Thank you for sharing this information. I would like to ask you if I can make landing page on a wordpress blog where I can collect the e-mails in exchange for a bonus. I’m not really into web design and building websites, so I want to know if I have to make a classic HTML website or a wordpress blog it’s enough.
    Thank you,
    Mihai

Jeff Johnson: Do anything you’d like, just make sure the offer stands out enough to actually collect the email.

  • Mihai

    Hi Jeff,
    Thank you for these tips!
I would like to ask you if in order to make a landing page where I collect the e-mails in exchange for a bonus (pdf, video, etc) I need a classic HTML website or a wordpress blog is enough. I don’t want the landing page to be separated from the rest of the website (or blog).
    Thank you,
    Mihai

Jeff Johnson: You can do anything you’d like but you need to make sure it stands out enough, and has enough room to tell an effective reason why they shoudl join your list.

  • Andrew

    Hi

Thanks for all the help and tips – I just have a quick question.

Creating content for your site was mentioned above – When we are trying to rank sites in google is it usful to use services like wordpress direct to create lots of related content on the site – or even hidden at the back of the site.

As I know some people have recommended this for googles ppc advertising as it scans your whole domain. But does a similar thing work for SEO? Or would it have a negative effect?

If its useful is there any free alternative plugins/software for this?

    thanks again

    Andrew

Jeff Johnson: From what I know about wordpress direct, the content is publicly available and similar content can easily be done with our Traffic Getting SEO Plugin and our coaching tutorials.

It is something that does work for seo, but not nearly as effective as creating your own content.

Just seach for wp plugins that use yahoo answers, or rss feeds for content.

We also have a solution for extracting data feeds with affiliate traffic machine pro and using that content for creating auto publishing wordpress sites.

    Hi,
I have installed your SEO plug-in. Great tool.
    Thanks.

  • David

    Hello Jeff,

this is just unbelievably effektive! After seeing one of your Youtube videos I set up some free blogs, did some interlinking posts and also linking up to one of my blogs – then I went out bookmarking them in social marker and practically over night I appeared in google’s top ten – even for some pretty competitive keywords.

And I didn’t even know half the info you give here! This can help anyone to jumpstart his business if implemented. Anyone reading this, give it an honest try – less than half this info got me started within a week.

Well, I have a programming background and was able to automate some of the tasks so somebody doing everything by hand might have to work a little more but this should not stop you. It is very possible and in my opinion stupid easy.

So Jeff, thank you so much for your amazing work. Everyone who can should buy your product, everyone who can’t should implement the free stuff in order to quickly become one of the first group.

    David

Some interesting information ,though a little confusing at times.

  • Akinwunmi Oresanya

    Hello Jeff,

Please, I’ve not even make any sales with my site since March this year that the site have been on. Can you help out.

    Akin

Jeff Johnson: That depends on what you mean by “help”. My coaching club offers access to hundreds of hours of training material and is designed to “help”.

But it is currently closed to new students.

However, if you study the free tutorials here and on my youtube page you should be able to find a few ideas to help.

The big issue is probably your sales copy, your email, and your lack of affiliate support so you may wish to do some research on those topics in the meantime.

Thanks for the trffic building list. It is printed out and on my bulletin board. I’ve even started using it and got to step #3. The version of WP that I’m using won’t accept the latest version of your free SEO Blog Plug-in. What now? Are you in the process of updating your plug-in to make it compatible? My hosting company insists that I keep the WP up-to-date. Thanks for the info and I’ll await your reply.

Jeff Johnson: traffic getting seo plugin is compatitble with wp versions 2.8xxx, and has been for the last year.

The most up to date version of wp is 2,8,6 and we are running it without an issue with tgsp. Please make sure you are running a wp version greater than 2.8.

Hey Jeff this is great. I really appreciate your effort here.
I’m wondering about posting to social bookmarking sites as to how you go about it with the different names and times of day.
Is this meaning for 1 blog post you do..you are going to 20 different bookmarking sites and posting on all of them with 20 different emails and usernames?? and then for a squidoo that links to the post u bookmark with another 20 diffferent emails and usernames???
we are talking a lot of work here. Is not leaving a footprint that important? I really need some feedback on this.. cheers

Jeff Johnson: My advice for bookmarking is to simply spend as little time as possible on it. It’s nice to be found in the search results on these bookmarking sites, but creating unique content and finding incoming links are much more effective from an SEO standpoint.

So I’d bookmark a few pages here and there with one or two accounts and leave it at that.

I believe I updated the post a long time ago to reflect that opinion.

Jeff, Great stuff and thanks so much…

Do you recommend using the Feedburner plugin or is what you have given us here with your TGSP enough?

Jeff Johnson: Feedburner is something we use on quite a few of our own sites but I’ve never tested a feedburner plugin, we just use the service.

You’re kinda 3 years late with this tutorials don’t you think Jeff? This is old news now…..after a few promoted the *** out for courses on this type of traffic you decide too? Oh come on …. I thought you are different, and I really liked your stuff ……not a me too product from you

Jeff Johnson: That post is dated almost two years ago… and it’s free.. I’m not selling a “course” on it.

This is stuff that was inside my coaching club long before that… and is now on my blog for free.

Actually, the only part that really isn’t part of our business today is social bookmarking.

But social profile pages still get traffic and make sales, videos are more important than ever and so are incoming links.

thanks for the heads-up on the social bookmarking part… I’ll try to update that soon.

    Hi Jeff;

Thanks a lot as you have been answering for many of us who are really looking help from someone like you.

I feel I have made a good niche website but, the fact is I am not getting any money and not getting any search users though the domain got Google PR3.

I am not sure what’s wrong and how can I drive traffic, will this site be worth to have to make any money as I don’t enjoy fruits yet ?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rena

PR doesn’t guarantee traffic. You need as many pages as possible on long tail keywords with quality content. Also make sure you work on converting the visitors you have to “buyers” or action takers. Or… .you can sell advertising on your site. try openx… tutorial on this blog. Or you could try selling the site itself if in a good market on seedo.com Good Luck! And don’t forget to watch my youtube videos for a ton of training along theses lines. http://www.youtube.com/jeffjohnsonvideos

It’s a lot of work but it pays off in the end. Stay with it and find ways to do it cheaper and easier. There are great services available for some of this that are affordable if you look around
