iPad and iPhone Friendly Video Marketing

The apple iPad and iPhone suck for video marketing… sort of.

The problem is that the ipad/touch/iphone do not play adobe flash based videos, yet flash based videos still dominate the internet video marketplace.

Even worse… according to the research in the video below….  it looks like in just a few short weeks the iPad has already become one of the most widely used mobile devices for watching online videos… the top two mobile devices used for watching online videos are the iPhone and the iPod Touch.

And according to the statistics in the video below…  it looks like iPad users have more money to spend than the typical internet user and they spend much more time watching videos than the average web user.

So if you want to make sure your video marketing message is seen by as many people as possible then you need to make sure your videos are ipad ready.

Sites like youtube.com, brightcove.com,sorenson 360, viddler, vimeo and flickr are just a few sites that will work with apple ipads, apple iphone and ipod touch mobile devices.

    Awesome Video Post Jeff!!!

What about embedding the video yourself with .Mov files? is that possible?

yes, you could embedd a download link to have them download a mp4 video that is hosted on your own site or amazon s3, etc.

    Jeff, Thanks for the video!

I have been surprised at how my video sales letters I haven’t been able to watch on my iPad since I got it.

Also, I have to say my iPad ROCKS! Folks in the blogosphere that don’t understand Apple’s lack of flash support need to:

    1. watch your video to understand how HUGE video is on the net and..

2 understand Apple only supports formats that use the hardware video decoder on the iPad/Phone etc. to ensure the video is beautiful, smooth and doesn’t drain the battery like the flash software decoder.

Finally, I wanted to mention that I have been using an iPad App called GoodReader to download all the Traffic Voodoo videos and watch them on my iPad since I can’t seem to watch them in the iPad browser.

great point! Glad to see you are talking about this.

I love to check email on my iPad. I currently receive a weekly video newsletter from a colleague that plays a YouTube video right in my inbox, …so convenient! I also receive many emails that have links to websites/videos which rely on flash player. In order to view those, I have to wait until I get back to my Mac (computer). I can tell you that many times, I never get back around to viewing those links.

Jeff truly is the go to guy.

I just thought I’d share this….there is a cool little plug in for wordpress that publishes your blog in an iphone compatible format.

I’ve only played about with it a little bit but if you’re posting youtube vids to your blog this is probably a very good option to consider.

    The plug in is here:

You have to do a bit of site tweaking but it’s pretty cool and it looks like they’re updating soon so it may include the ipad as well.

    Hope you find this helpful.

This is why I use YouTube, too… It’s universal with lots of device specific compatibility. It’s also super easy. No hassles.
