Where do I get started with Jeff Johnson’s Underground Training Lab?
Jeff suggests that you start here:
The PDF files won’t open, what’s wrong?
The PDF files are using the latest reader technologies from Adobe. You must have the latest version of Adobe reader to access the PDF files.
Please download and install the latest free Adobe reader:
Where do I download the blog software package?
To download the blog software package you need to subscribe to our mailing list here: http://www.undergroundtraininglab.com/main.php by entering your name and email.
Next, you have to check your email with the subject line:
“RESPONSE REQUIRED: Confirm your request for information from undergroundlab@aweber.com”
Click on the link in that email to confirm your email address.
After you confirm your email address, you will receive a second email with the subject line:
“your new seo blog installation package from Jeff Johnson”
At the bottom of the email will be instructions on how to download the blog software starting with: “So here’s what you do“.
If you did not get any of the emails, check your spam filters. If you still did not get the messages after checking your spam filters contact our help desk and we will assist you further:
The username and password you sent me in my email to download the blog software doesn’t work. I’m getting Error 401 – Unauthorized.
Try to manually type in the username and password. Even though using copy & paste is fast, sometimes it can select unnecessary spaces before or after the username or password. Even though you cannot see the spaces it will result in an incorrect username and/or password.
The simple resolution to this problem is to manually type in the username and password and you’ll be granted access to the download page.
What is FTP and why do I need this?
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a method to upload files to a web host server. To understand how to use an FTP client you first would need to setup a domain and webhost to obtain your FTP information. You would then use your FTP information in an FTP client such as Filezilla to upload the blog package to your webhost. If you are unfamiliar with how to setup a domain and webhost, I suggest you read more about domains at GoDaddy.com and look into webhosts at companies such as 1and1.com and HostGator.com.
Our blog software does require some basic knowledge about domains, webhosts, and FTP in order to install. I would suggest you first become familiar with domains and webhosts, in which understanding what it means to FTP will follow.
I need help setting up my FTP information with Filezilla, what do I do?
If you are having difficulty with Filezilla, I suggest that you check out to the documentation by Filezilla here: http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Main_Page
I followed the installation instructions to where it says to upload the files, but where do I upload the files?
Depending upon your web hosting company and FTP information, this directory could be numerous locations. Common directories to upload are httpdocs, public_html and the first directory you are presented with when you connect with your FTP information.
If you see a httpdocs or public_html directory, then most likely you would want to upload the files into there. If you do not see a httpdocs or public_html directory, then you would upload the files in the current directory you are connected with.
All of these common directories will upload the files to the root of your domain (I.E. – www.YOURDOMAIN.com). If you create a new folder in the root directory, say “wordpress”, then the domain of your blog would be www.YOURDOMAIN.com/wordpress.
I tried to install the blog software and go an error similar to this:
Warning: main(../wp-config.php) [function.main]: failed to open
stream: No such file or directory
in /home/domain/public_html /admin.php on line 7
Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘../wp-
config.php’
(include_path=’.:/usr/php4/lib/php:/usr/local/php4/lib/php’)
in /home/domain/public_html /admin.php on line 7
What does this mean and what do I do?
If you got an error similar to the one above, this means, while uploading the blog software with your FTP client, some files were not uploaded completely. Occasionally FTP clients can get disconnected when a large number of files are being uploaded.
To fix this problem, just re-upload the missing files. In the example above the missing file is the wp-config.php. You can tell because it will follow the Warning message, enclosed in parenthesis.
What if I already have wordpress installed? Can I upgrade my current blog to use the free SEO package?
The answer is yes, but is not recommended. Here is a tutorial on how to upgrade your blog: http://www.undergroundtraininglab.com/42/upgrade-wordpress/
This is for experience users only!
I tried to install my blog and I got this message, “Error establishing a database connection”, what do I do?
This error message means that the database information that you save into the wp-config.php file is incorrect. First, check to make sure that you typed in everything correctly then try again. If the error message persists, if maybe a problem with user permissions. Make sure that you granted access to the user your created for the database to the database.
If you’re confused on this, please re-read over the steps carefully under Step 1 here: http://www.undergroundtraininglab.com/2/seo-wordpress-installation/
If you’re still having troubles, contact your web host.
I tried to click on the button on the XML Sitemap page that says “Apply Jeff Johnson’s Configurations” and I do not see it. What is wrong?
This feature is available to the most recent version of our package, version 1.2a.
Version ‘a’ does not have this upgrade feature. Only versions 0.9b and 1.2a have this feature. If you are upgrading your blog make sure you have the most up-to-date package. Upload the entire contents of that package to the location of your current blog, overwriting all files. (Except for the wp-config.php file, of course)
You can distinguish the difference by looking at the name of the zip folder (notice the number letter version at the end of the name of the file):
Most up-to-date package file name:
undergroundtraininglab-seo-wordpress-1.2a.zip
I tried clicking on a link to a post on my newly installed blog and I’m getting a 404 error, page cannot be displayed. What is going on?
The error you are getting is due to a permalink structure error. This is a rather simple fix. In the instructions (http://www.undergroundtraininglab.com/2/seo-wordpress-installation/) Step 5 parts g., h., and i. explain what is needed to fix this problem. Read these steps carefully and it should correct your problem.

hi folks,
sorry, but I get a 401 page when clicking on the link in my email for downloading the Installation Package.
This is the message on the 401:
You failed to provide a valid account required for access to page.
There is no login area available, just that message.
I have searched the FAQ page but that didn’t get me any answers.
Anthony Montalbano says:
When you go to the download page a login prompt window will come up asking for username and password. I’ve tested this in popular browsers such as IE, Firefox, and Opera.

Why is it that my RSS feed button works fine in Firefox, but doesn’t in Internet Explorer - really weird and only stopped working after I did your SEO blog upgrade? Any ideas? Thanks, John.
http://www.johndeighton.com/blog/
PS. Otherwise - Love the upgrade, it’s awesome! Thanks.
Anthony Montalbano says:
I just took a look at your blog in Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera and was able to see the RSS feeds perfectly fine. Have you tried it on a different computer with IE? Have you update/upgrade your IE lately? Those would be my only suggestions for you right now, since I am not seeing any errors. Hope this helps!

Hi,
I have installed the whole application successfully. But there is one thing I want to ask.
I wanted to install this application on a sub directory which is HTTP://fitness.infedo.com.
When I try to change the domain name to the subdomain the application turns it to:http://fitness.infedo.com/fitness/ and I’m getting the message that the site cannot be found. Can you help me to fix this?

I am having troubles with getting the pipes into my blog.
the tutorial you have on pipes is only to create a pipe which is very useful but it would be appreciated if you have a tutorial telling how to incorporate that into your blog.
For the rest great software, great tutorials.

Hi Jeff’s Team,
I am new to this and have spent the last 3 months researching IM and particular Affiliate Marketing. I have nearly signed up to a few Programmes but decided not to …….mm well I could mention a few but I am professional with my conduct and unless something untoward happens I will leave it to the individual to find out.
There are a lot of scams out there thats for sure
….feels like a good story coming on….. no not now…..
Back to the point of me responding to your question ???…..
What do I think about your site ..service help….products …..
Well,…. “Quite frankly my dear Watson”
I think it’s absoloutley fantastic……Ihave learn’t soooo much and can’t wait to start an internet biz
But you do speak rather quick….keep having to replay…small price to pay though…
Take a breath please……
Thanks so much for your advice and I know I will be coming back to say how well I have done with your help.

What is data name and where do I find it?
8 SteveW // May 20, 2008 at 1:39 pm
I successfully installed and customized what I feel
is the best blog imaginable. I LOVE it!
I added a 160×600 Adsense block to the sidebar.
On the articles page in my categories, the Adsense ads relate to the content of the article.
But on my Index home page all the Adsense ads are blog and wordpress related. All intalled plugins are activated.
What can I do to make the ads on my Index page relate to the articles?

Hi Jeff,
First off, THANKS for the amazing help you are giving to us for $ ZERO! Incredible.
Second, I am a newbie at PHP and SQL, so forgive me, but I am getting this error when I go to the site (after installing the WP2.5 SEO pack):
This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying.
I copied all of the folders/files in the ‘wordpress’ folder into my top level FTP directory. Any ideas on what is going wrong? I know this is vague, but maybe I am searching for the incorrect file name? I am going to http://www.thelowdownblog.com (which is where I uploaded the info). I even tried to go to http://www.thelowdownblog.com/index.php just on a whim.
Any help you can offer? Thanks so much..
Rob

Hi,
I just installed everything on /public_html/mydomainname…is that correct?
Also when you say in step 5 in the installation manual: a Open your web browser and navigate to the location you uploaded your blog package. The installation screen will appear with a form similar to the one below.
Does this mean to go to the web address to fill out the form, for instance: http://mydomain.com ?
Because I did and I got and http500 error (Page cannot be displayed.)
Could it possibly because it’s a brand new domain name, if not what could be the possible cause?
Thanks for all of your hard work!!
Thanks!
Ruth

Hi Jeff,
Ever so gratefull for this SEO Wordpress software, but seem to be stomped on two issues. I uploaded wordpress software up to my root diectory and it installed OK When I want to get to have a look at the blog there is no way I can see it but by clicking the highlighted published
My Question is how does anybody else view my blog
Secondly I have tried for days since you notified me about the rss feeder and you said to install this in the sidebar.php file under the tags I have done this and get no reaction.
I take this file is in the wp-admin file . Can you let me know as I can@t find any reference to it at all.
Thanks again for all of your hard work!!
Dave
Anthony Montalbano says:
It appears that you have your blog installed to a directory where there is already a site. The default page you are seeing is the index.html file that you’ve previously created. The homepage to your blog is index.php. When there are specific files such as index.html, index.php, index.cgi web servers have a default precedence on what to display. Here is basic hierarchy of the order in which these files will be displayed, where the top of this list is the highest precedence:
To change the order you can add the following line of code to the top of your.htaccess file of the root directory of your blog (where the order of the files from first to last determines the new priority):
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htmHope this helps!

I swear I must be stupid, all this, easy to do…,
easy to install… I’m new to the computer all together, But I know I ain’t that stupid. Can someone help me with this,
Step 5 is as far as I got, 5. Install Your Blog
a. Open your web browser and navigate to the location you uploaded your blog package. The installation screen will appear with a form similar to the one below.
I’m not getting that form infront of me like I should. Can someone help, please

I downloads free software and uploaded it. All plugs ins are working.
However, when I make a post and publish or make widget changes, the only way the changes will go live is that I have to change themes, and then I change it back to assume the theme I like best. What a hassel. How do I fix this?
Also, in the sidebars there are undergroundlab links. I’ve checked out the sidebar code, and tried making changes, but they don’t disappear. What do I need to do to take these off?
Anthony Montalbano says:
I’m not too sure I understand the first question. When you publish a post it should be visible on any theme selected. And second, as long as the theme is “widget ready” then any changes made to the widget will apply to the theme.
The links are added to the Links of the site. Click on Manager>Links and you will see the links there to remove them.

Hi Jeff,
First of all, thanks for all of the great info. The traffic blueprint alone is probably worth at least a thousand dollars, conservatively speaking. I have spent the better part of the Memorial Day weekend trying to connect the free software to my new blog, but it’s just not happening. I downloaded the 1.2a version and transferred the files through filezilla to my host. It says that I transferred the files successfully but when I type in my web address I get this message:
Index of /
* cgi-bin/
* wp-admin/

I know that you guys are busy but if you can point me in the right direction I sure would appreciate it!
Many thanks!
Gerard

It looks like the entire contents of our blog software was not uploaded completely. You should be auto-redirected to the installation of the blog. Make sure that you upload all files and folders in the package.

Warning: require(/home/content/m/i/k/mikep1963/html/wp-includes/compat.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/m/i/k/mikep1963/html/wp-settings.php on line 202

Anthony Montalbano says:
This error message is telling you that a file is missing and/or is corrupted. To fix this simply re-upload the file that is causing your error. In this case it is the compat.php file which is located in the wp-includes folder. Re-upload that file and you shouldn’t have this problem.
16 Gerard // May 26, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Hi Jeff,
I keep getting the same error message when I try to install the blog software. I went back to reinstall the 1.2a version but I can’t find the file to install-
admin.php
Is this a problem for this version?
Gerard
Anthony Montalbano says:
To install 1.2a you will need the entire contents of the package. All files are included in the package, try to re-upload the package to your server again, this may fix your problem.

When I make a new page on the blog…
the name of the page will be pretty crummy…http://www.whatever.com123456.
I can’t seem to figure out how to make it
so the article title will be at the end of the
url instead of a bunch of numbers and junk.
Permalink maybe? This blog is alot different than my older blogs.
Does it have something to do with
%postname% ?
Anthony Montalbano says:
Yes, this is a permalink structure. Our customized blog software takes care of correcting this issue. If you installed our blog package correctly, you should see the article URLs to include the article title and not “a bunch of numbers and junk”.
Thanks

I would suggest talking with your webhost to make sure everything was setup correctly. It’s hard for me to suggest anything further given the error you are receiving. If your domain, webhost, and MySQL database is setup correctly, then the installation instructions for the blog should help you get your blog up and running properly.

Hi Jeff and Anthony,
Not sure if my last submission went through so forgive me if this is repetitive. I’m so close to having the turbo-charged blog up and running- I just can’t get to the admin page- I get this error:
Warning: require_once(admin.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/stecr/public_html/wp-admin/index.php on line 3
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘admin.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/stecr/public_html/wp-admin/index.php on line 3
I’ve deleted the files and re uploaded them a dozen times but still can’t get to the admin page. Any suggestions?

Hi Jeff and Anthony,,
With the hundreds and hundreds of plug-ins out there, how will I know which ones I can and cannot use with your software, or, should they all work no matter which ones they may be?
Plus, when it comes to Wordpress updates and subsequent plug-in updates, are there any additional steps that need to be taken to ensure your software still functions?
Thanks a bunch for listening!
Best,
Mark
Make sure you back up your database before making any changes.
review the videos on the site about updating your blog
http://www.undergroundtraininglab.com/category/seo-wordpress-installation/
and test your plugins one-by-one to make sure they work before you install the next one.

Now to give back:
I was not able to login into the SEO Blog software after copying into my root directory on my new domain at GoDaddy.com. After much trial and error (newbie) troubleshooting, I discovered that the SQL server name in the wp-config.php file has to be the actual GoDaddy SQL server name like xyzysql123.secureserver.net (vs Local Host). I also had better success using the SQL 5 vs the older version 4.1 offered there.
So, of course all the SEO Blog files need to loaded up in the appropriate directory of your domain but these 2 factors need to be in place also.
I hope this helps save others precious time.

Hi Jeff Johnson (and “guys”),
I really appreciate the opportunity that “Jeff Johnson Videos”, etc, provides. Jeff, I am very new at IM and am attempting to build my first online biz. Thanks to all your (unselfish) FREE videos (which I actually studied like a college lecture course taking notes and listening to them many, many times) I feel I have a fighting chance to be successful in my new career.
It’s super hard work building a new biz while learning a new skill set at the same time not to mention working full time at something else. Your “lecture” series on YouTube is a god-send.
When my new online businesses start generating sufficient cash flow AND your coaching course opens up, I’m there!!
I look forward to meeting you someday to thank you in person. Thank you so much for all you do.
/Yes, another…Jeff
