Once you’ve downloaded my FREE SEO Blog Software  you can use these this technique to really juice your free traffic from the search engines.

Summary

Grab 6 out of the top 10 search results by Using http://AutomaticBookmarking.com  To Submit Your Pages or Blog Posts to Dozens of Social Bookmarking Sites in Minutes.

Social Bookmarking is not the only way to get free traffic so make sure you use all the other sources I share with you as well.

Other Resources:

Tools We Use for Social Bookmarking:

http://AutomaticBookmarking.com

Introduction to Social Bookmarking:

According to Wikipedia.com “Social bookmarking is a way for Internet users to store, organize, share and search bookmarks of web pages. In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, but depending on the service’s features, may be saved privately, shared only with specific people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, via a search engine, or even randomly.”

Here’s How You  Can Use Social Bookmarking To Grab Free Traffic From The Search Engines:

Social Bookmarking helps create incoming links, and multiplies the possible number of results you have in the search engines. For example; submit one of your pages or blog posts to the 29 social bookmarking sites listed below and that one post can now show up as 29 “unique” results in the search engines. So now instead of having that one page/blog post rank just once in the top 10, it is possible for that “one” page to actually rank 29 times… you could literally own the first 29 results in google for your search term when you use Social Bookmarking as part of your promotions.

The SB incoming links aren’t as “valuable” as other types of “hard coded” links.. but hey, they do add value to your traffic-getting efforts.

It all comes down to proper keyword selection. The more targeted the keyword phrase the better your chances of ranking high.

For example, I use this technique for promoting highly competitive products like plasma tvs and digital cameras and do quite well with it. But I use specific model numbers like “casio exilim ex-z1080 10.1mp …” for my keyword phrase rather than “casio digital camera”.

A great source of product-specific keyword phrases, “unique” content, data feeds, and amazon RSS feeds is my very own: http://www.AffiliateTrafficMachine.com

Real Life Example:

Social Bookmarking is the technique we used live at the November 2007 Get More Traffic Blueprint workshop for getting the term “casio ex-z1080 10.1 mp digital camera” ranked; we were able to get 6 out of the top 10 spots in google within 24 hours.

Here’s how we did it:

1.       My assistant shot a quick video of me with the new casio exilim ex-z1080 digital camera.

2.       He loaded the video to youtube and ten other video sites

3.        He posted the youtube video to my blog

4.        He took the blog post url and submitted it to 10 or 20 Social Bookmarking sites using http://AutomaticBookmarking.com

5.       He took the video page itself at youtube and myspace and submitted the video page to 10 or 20 SB sites using http://AutomaticBookmarking.com

(once you load a video to a video sharing site like youtube…  simply bookmark the video page.)

That’s it. And within hours we controlled 6 out of the top 10 search results for the term “casio exilim ex-z1080 10.1 mp digital camera”.

It’s important to note that the video on sites such as youtube.com, myspace, gofish, etc. are still ranking in the top 10 on google 30 days later, but the blog post listings on the social bookmarking sites such as propeller.com are no longer in the top 10.

That means you should use video whenever possible and bookmark the video page at the video sites themselves in addition to your blog post. You should keep adding your important pages/videos/posts to new SB sites every week or two after the initial SB promotion; the new ones will “replace” the old ones and you’ll keep your rankings in google long term.

Note: The whole SB promotion for the casio took less than 15 minutes; including shooting the video itself. We didn’t add a watermark to our video for time’s sake but You Should Always add the URL of the site you are promoting to your videos (as watermarks) before distributing them.

Using Social Marker for Your Social Bookmarking Promotions:

When you visit AutomaticBookmarking.com you’ll see a list of several dozen of the top Social Bookmarking sites such as propeller.com, technorati.com, twitter.com, etc.

social marker bookmarking

Each one of these sites (propeller.com, etc) is called a “Social Bookmarking” site.

The object is to submit the page or blog post you wish to “rank high in the engines” to as many of the social bookmarking sites as possible. If you have an entire site you wish to rank well hen submit each page/post to the Social Bookmarking sites (be sure to use the “Ranking Higher Tips” below).

Ranking Higher Tips:

The key is to make your Social Bookmarking (SB) promotions seem “natural” to the search engines. You accomplish this by setting up multiple SB accounts, and by running your promotions slowly, over time… a few today, a few next week, and a few next month, etc.

If you only have one SB account set up (1 propeller.com, 1 twitter.com, etc) the engine will eventually catch on that the account is simply being used to “influence” the search engines… and eventually they’ll stop indexing and ranking your personal SB accounts.

1.       Register multiple accounts for each of the Social Bookmarking sites listed at Social Marker (see “e” below). I suggest starting out with at least 10 unique accounts for each Social Bookmarking (SB) sites.

a.       For example, visit propeller.com and open up 10 unique accounts using different usernames, etc.

b.       Use free email accounts from yahoo, gmail, etc. to open up the accounts.

c.        Repeat the process for each of the 29 Social Bookmarking sites listed at Social Marker.

d.      My guys tell me that it only takes them 15 minutes to sign up for all 29 Social Bookmarking sites. So creating 10 accounts for each of the Social Bookmarking sites should only take you or your staff a few hours to complete.

e.      Use Social Maker itself when signing up for your new accounts; when it takes you to each of the 29 sites don’t enter your existing passwords, simply sign up for a new one and move on to the next.

f.        Use roboform.com to organize the passwords; it’s a great time saver.

2.       Rotate the SB accounts you use for each page/post/video you submit with Social Marker.

a.       For example, if you have 10 propeller.com accounts then randomly choose 3 of them to submit each unique page/post to this time, and the next time randomly choose 3 more.

b.      Do NOT submit the same page to all 10 of your propeller.com accounts at the same time.

3.       Add new SB accounts to use in your promotions on a regular basis.

a.       For example, start by setting up 10 accounts for each SB site, and then each week or two add a few new ones so you eventually get up to 40 or 50 accounts for each SB site.

4.       Mix it up a bit; If you are promoting your page/post/video about Jessica Alba, you should also Social bookmark items you find about her from various sites (youtube.com, myspace.com, digg.com, etc.) that are not yours (they weren’t created or posted by you). This helps give the appearance of randomness to your promotions.

5.       Social Bookmark the Social Bookmarking pages, too. For example, I created a video, loaded it to youtube, and then posted the youtube video on my blog. I then ran a SB promotion for my new video blog post. Then I took the video’s page at youtube and promoted that page with AutomaticBookmarking.com, too.

6.       Do your SB promotions for each page/post/video slowly over time. Do a few today, a few more next week, a few more a month from now, etc.

7.       “Tags” are your primary keywords so choose highly specific “long tail” ones whenever possible. For example, if you are promoting a “casio exilim ex-z1080 digital camera” one of your “tags” should be “casio exilim ex-z1080 digital camera”. And then includes general tags like “digital camera”, “casio camera”, “casio exilim”, etc.

8.       Create videos whenever possible and promote them with social bookmarking. Videos tend to stay in the rankings longer than the Social Bookmarks themselves. Don’t forget to SB the pages that your video is hosted on.

9.       Social Bookmarking should not be the only technique you use to promote your page/post/video. Use other techniques such as incoming links, articles, press releases, on page optimization, etc.

10.       Don’t SB every single little page/post/video you create. Social Bookmarking can cause a lot of “spam” so use it wisely.

11. SB should only be used as a method of jumpstarting your indexing in the engines, so don’t spend all day doing it. Just SB a new post or page at a couple of sites and then move on to other, more important things like building more sites, posting new pages, and marketing the site in general.

I would like to know what traffic consist of am I trying to sell something or traffic is? Your tutorial Im new @this need to do some stepbystep.thank you

Jeff Johnson says: I’m not sure I understand the question but I’ll try to answer it…

You should always try to monetize your sites.

this is how I use these particular types of blogs (I do everythigng listed on every blog, but I do use each of these to make money from the blogs)

You could make money by collecting emails and selling proudcts.

You could show ads on your sites, not just adsense, but ads from cj.com , amazon.com and selling ad space to private parties.

You could sell link placements on your blog.

You could use the blogs to build your own mini networks and incoming links networks to support your other sites.

step by step “make money” from these sites are not really part of this site.

This site is about setting up an seo blog and then promoting it to get traffic.

    Hi Jeff,

    Thanks for the SB tips.

I do have one concern regarding multiple accounts for SB. I used to adopt this strategy but I found many of the accounts was disabled later.

I don’t know how they find out but I guess they could easily check the IP address. Can they do that?

    – lio.

Jeff Johnson says: We handle this in many ways:

First, we use public proxy servers and networks (TOR) to access the social networking/social media sites to set up new accounts so they always show different IP addresses.

Second, we have outsourcing agents from all over the world create new social media account for us so they get around any filters for public proxy network bans

Third, we use public proxy networks when we are accessing our social media account for boomarking so they don’t see one IP accessing multiple different accounts.

Fourth, my tech guys set up proxy servers on our own network of dedicated servers so we don’t have to worry about security issues and/or public IP banning at the social media sites; for advanced users only.

  • Mike

    Thank you Jeff!

    I have a question though:

Do you guys really set up multiple account at Digg?

From what I have understood they are rather good at catching on to that kind of stuff. Does using TOR make you anonymous enough to stay under the radar?

Jeff Johnson says: Yes, we have multiple digg accounts. Lots of them and there are ways other than proxy servers to get around it :)

  • Mychael

Very informative! Concern because I’am not a techie

  • Bhakti

wow. I always look for this kind of tutorial and never found one.

Now, I have found and your tutorial is so easy to understand with its detail.

    Hi Jeff,

I was super excited about this system until I read you need to use “public proxy servers and networks (TOR)” …
“outsourcing agents from all over the world “…etc. to get around having your accounts banned and closed.

How do us little guys with no staff or outsourcing budget get around these challenges???

Again I do appreciate the wealth of free info provided I just want make sure it isn’t all for “not” in my case.

    Cheers.

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the free SEO WP.
I’ve got trouble with the multiple accounts for social marketing, as you told:
if you have 10 propeller.com accounts then randomly choose 3 of them to submit each unique page/post.
Actually each page/post have the same url address and they won’t accept it for multiple accounts with the same story url.
Please assist on this matter. Thanks
    Cheers.

“5. Don’t SB every single little page/post/video you create. Social Bookmarking can cause a lot of “spam” so use it wisely.”

I’m glad you mention that with your info. It seems like with every trend in net marketing someone finds a way to overuse it. Just look at the myspace spam situation.

    Great stuff Jeff. Thanks.

    Hey Jeff, awesome tutorial.

    Just a quick question.

Do you mean you aim to submit each unique page to 10 social bookmarking sites over time OR do you submit a different unique page to a random social bookmarking site?

    Randomization is always the key.

  • John From Honest Home Business

Fantastic set of videos Jeff, thank you!

Some great advice and information in all of the videos.

Like you’ve said, it does requires outsourcing, or a whole heap of spare time.

Nevertheless, your advice does bare fruit and I can confirm that. Social sites are worth the effort, especially for website owners who have a home business.

The time and money you save from not paying for or chasing traffic is worth the cost of outsourcing.

    Great stuff. thanks Jeff.
    Wishing you good fortune.

There are a number of social bookmarking plugins for WordPress. This tutorial is a demonstration of how to install the Notable Plugin which allows you to add a row of cute little icons near each post.

These icons allow a visitor to your site to easily bookmark your site. With the huge popularity of the social bookmarking sites, a couple bookmarks can start a stampede of traffic to your site.

Ok.. why don’t you clear up things? Even a kid knows that social bookmarking traffic NEVER converts. That’s true.. Try it out.. You’ll see. If you want traffic to your blog, the competition on Digg, Stumble upon and other social bookmarking sites are so hard, you’ll probably need to blast your home to get their attention. So not practical

Jeff Johnson says: Good thing I only use it as one of a thousand ways to drive traffic… and by the way, I do make tons of money from traffic that is seeking free stuff, including social networking sites. You just have to know what to sell them, and how to sell it to them th right way..

    ___________________________
    Jeff,

What do you sell them, and how do you sell it? If you don’t mind my asking.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Jeff Johnson says: “what” I sell depends on the market. But remember, your traffic doesn’t have to buy anything for you to get paid. They can clicks ppc ads, or you can send them to cpa offers for filling out forms.. and you get paid.

Or you can sell them your services.

    I’ve been successful at both.

It all comes down to writing a compelling offer or email to get them to take action.

and the offer has to be profitable to warrant your time. If not, don’t bother with it and move on to the next one.

    If they don’t buy… who cares… 98% of them won’t.

but if you find the 2% that does, and they spend enough, you could get rich.

    I know I have :)

    Hey Jeff,

I hope your launch is going gangbusters.

I understand that this lesson was about SB and social marketing but this question came up above…and I’ve been waiting for an occasion to ask…so here goes.

On a few occasions you recommend selling links as one way to monetize a site. (I know this isn’t a big revenue producer but hey if you can defray the costs of domains, servers etc…)

I can’t find it now but I swear I’ve heard you say that Google doesn’t particularly like it when you have run of site links (which most blog links would be…unless they are in a post)…how do you reconcile the two i.e. sell links but not ROS…?

Do you have a “best practice” for this aspect of your business?

    Thanks a ton.

Jeff Johnson says: You sell “advertising links” on individual posts.

Just received an offer the other day… again… to place links in posts on my site. I believe they were offering $10 per link and wanted quite a few.

Just put a link on your page that says “advertise here” or something similar and they’ll find you.

  • Make Money On Internet

Small guys without staff or money need to use a bit of ingenuity to make this work.

If you’re only SBing a few post/pages per week you can set up the accounts gradually as you need them.

And a way to get around the proxy servers problem is to make use of your town’s public library PCs or drop into the internet cafe ;-)

My biggest problem is keeping a record of what I’ve done: which page has been bookmarked at which SB site under which username on which date – any chance of some free software, Jeff?

    Jake

Jeff Johnson says: Don’t worry about keeping track of where you posted it, just use a randomization strategy to rotate which blogs you sb, and which account you use sb.

Besides, SB is not the best way to build traffic to your site, it’s only one of hundreds.

i wouldn’t spend too much time on it in your overall traffic-getting strategies.

I enjoy giving back which is my wife and I volunteer our time for the pta, the public schools, cub scouts, girl scouts, local sporting and charity events.

We also donate thousands to charity on a very, very regular basis.

And I “give back” to the net by providng an insane number of videos (60 or more that run into the hours and hours of total runtime).

And free seo blog software that works as well as that being sold successfully on the net for as much as $295.

and I teach you how to do certain things with process sheets.

But I have to save my time and my “best, most detailed” stuff for my coaching clients.

I only have so many hours in the day (same for my staff), and I insist on watching my children grow up.

So for those that need “free”… I give them more than most.

So I hope you can appreciate my position and I look forward to sending out more free content and tools down road :)

    Jeff,
your free tutorials are indeed invaluable and in fact, work. I use your methods to help publicize my rock band’s website, very effectively at that.

Thanks for posting free info for us!

  • Dave

Thanks for the S B information above. It really clears the thinking.

I wish I could have afforded your coaching club; it would have been great. LOL

    Blessings in truth,

Jeff Johnson says: I can’t afford to service my clients at the level I do, and send out all the content, for much less than I’m charging; I have to pay staff, building expenses, and production costs of the dvds, etc., not to mention my affiliates.

We really do deliver a ton of content and service in the club, especially for those that are less technically inclined.

But I am working on a less expensive alternative for those of you that would prefer a less expensive option.

    I’ll let you know!

    Jeff,

SB is HUGE and yet a lot of markets have not even begun to tap into it yet. With your information I think those markets will begin picking up on the importance of SB.

    Great stuff, keep it up!

Just chiming in behind Pete here. SocialMarker.com has been acting very glitchy, I’m using socialposter.com now too.

    Hello! Question for you:

Your answer to “Mark” (entry #17) was, “If you don’t have staff do it yourself the smart way and use shortcuts/software to do the jobs for you.”

Can you provide more details on the shortcuts/software for those of us flying solo?

Thanks, your information is very helpful.

Jeff Johnson says: Check out my coaching club or the other free tutorials on this site and youtube.

Lots of good stuff that should help.

    Hi Jeff,

“My guys tell me that it only takes them 15 minutes to sign up for all 29 Social Bookmarking sites. So creating 10 accounts for each of the Social Bookmarking sites should only take you or your staff a few hours to complete.”

I was told it took 2 hours to sign up for all social bookmarking sites. How long did it take to submit a single URL using these accounts and SocialMarker.com?

Jeff Johnson says: If it takes them that long they need to follow our social bookmarking guide on this blog… it only takes 15 minutes that way.

  • Lane

    Jeff,

    Thanks again for everything!

If we use Social Marker does it matter which sites you check off when you sumit your url?

What I mean is that I have some static sites and some blogs. One of the social bookmarking sites suggested on Social Marker is Technorati. I believe that is used only for blogs. I can’t imagine it will do any good to submit a satic site to it.

So should we just check thm all of and submit or do we have to know anything to gt the greatest benefit?

    Lane

We randomly choose the ones we use each time.

    Hi Jeff,

I really like your article about social bookmarking. My only problem is that my staff is me and I am stretched thin now. I have learned IM is not throw up a site and warm up the car to take the money to the bank . It is work if you do it right.
    Thanks again for the info,

    Hi Jeff

Great tutorial as usual.Just would like to ask you some questions:

    1. I open my first account with propeller and would like to open my first account with digg; Now will I use the same username and password?Remember these are my first accounts for those SB.

The same with social profile page.My first myspace account is done; Now what about my first facebook account.Should I use the same username and password? These are only the first accounts I opened.

2.Would you like to be as clear as possible about those accounts thing as a lot of us will get banned if we don’t get it right.

Ok ,all my social profile pages like facebook, myspace, etc should have unique username and unique password,Right?

and the same for all video sharing sites,Right?

Or it should be the opposite.

Thanks again the tutorial was just mind blowing.

    Cele

Jeff Johnson says: We always use unique usernames, passwords aren’t as important since no one sees them, but I still use unique passwords.

It’s not about opening as many accounts as you can, it’s about using them wisely to help increase your exposure in the search engines.

We are not trying to spam the engines.

if you need a second account for legitimate reasons such as a unqiue corportion or market, then fine.

  • cele

    Hi Jeff,

Love your feddbacks man and really thank you Mate.

One more question: with all my accounts ( social pages and SB) can I use the same free email address or do I need to create as many aliases from one account as possible.

By the way I have installed TOR and it is working great.( thanks for that).

One more: How many days it takes for you to see traffic after the all operation.Or How long?

Cheers mate I love your tutorial

    thanks

    Cele

  • Cele

    Hi Jeff

Thanks for your feedbacks. One more question.I still don’t get it about the email account. With all these SB or social profile pages, can I use only one free email account from gmail or yahoo?

    Thanks

By the way I have installed TOR and it’s working just great. Can’t believe I can do all those stuff. This science is just great .

    Thanks again man.

  • Monty

Great information! I am new to the whole internet marketing thing but this is a great site for step by step methods! Thank you.

  • Dukie

I got torched, banned FOR LIFE by http://www.digg.com using this method.

What did I do wrong? And despite it being impossible to fix under my current IP address, what alternatives do I have?

*****General Info: Used 1Password, Created all of the digg accounts at once, and obviously did not use a proxy server.

Jeff how did you do it without a proxy server?

Jeff Johnson says: I’m not sure what you mean by “this method” since digg isn’t actually part of the free seo blog software.

But we do use a proxy to create multiple accounts.

And don’t rely on rss feeds for 100% of your content, only use it as filler content (less than 25% or so)

  • Mahmilton

thats grate, I am the new man in seo. So its very helpful.
    Thank You

  • Ray

Great Info, I will start implementing these strategies, I would recommend you to all my friends,

    Thanks.

  • gojocoi

    Nice tutorial,Sir.
you have method unique and good.i am sure your success and success again.your method is good and make your visitor happy with your “services”.
I can try and follow your method.
    Thanks very much.

  • Melvin

    Jeff,
Making 10 accounts for 29 sb sites totals 290 accounts. How many email accounts would you recommend that I create to accomplish this?

Jeff Johnson says: That’s way too many. Just create one account for each. It’s just meant to be a way to introduce your site to the engines… I teach people how to do more because that’s what I “get paid for”… but that’s not what everyone should do.

  • Ben Byekwaso

    Hello Jeff,

Great job you are doing for us all. Thank you very much. Quick question, about making a video.
I am an African living in the UK, I don’t have a very good english accent and I don’t have the command of english like you guys. Almost all the videos I have seen on the vedeo websites, are very good, I mean speak very well english. Although I would like to make a video and post it to these websites, I don’t know whether I shall get the audience to look at my videos, mainly because of my accent. What is your opinion? Can I use someone else’s voice?

    Thank very much as always

    Ben

Jeff Johnson : If you are selling “you”, use your own voice whenever possible.

If you are talking about a video tutorial for your club or product… using someone esle is fine… I have my guys create our “nuts and bolts, step by step” video tutorials for my club.

For example; if we are showing them how to ftp a file to a server.. my guys make that video.

If I’m teaching how to use cj.com for research, or keyword research, etc… I make the videos myself.

  • Laurentiu Sanda

Thank you for this great tutorial about Social Bookmarking!
    All the best!

  • Terry Woolman

All the information is great. There is so much information I have to watch the videos and read the materials over and over to pick up on some of the items you very lightly touch upon. Now down to business. In post 8 you give an excellent way for a bookmraking campaign. This is my next campaign to funnel traffic to my pay sight. Once I make some money (starting with nothing and being way out on the financial limb) I will be implementing some of your other traffic methods. When I go to the automatic bookmarking site, in the upper right, there is a program being offered called:
    “Social Submitter 1.1.2
Automated Submission to social bookmarking sites.
Highest submission speed possible less then five minutes to 160 bookmarking services.
    Supports multiple user accounts.”
This program says it takes care of the proxy servers and duplicate postings problems. The question is: Before I go even further out on that financial limb, do you have an opinion on this software? In the short time I have been reading your materials and watching your videos, I have become an affiliate member, downloaded your videos to my web community and come to value your opinions and comments very highly.
    Thanks for your valuable time.
    http://MakeMoneyOnlineCommunity.org

Jeff Johnson: Personally I don’t know anything about the software, but my guys may have tested it for me.

I don’t think you need an automated solution… one quick post of a few pages on your site is all you need… social bookmarking is only used to introduce new content to the engines and may not even be necessary if your site is a blog.

  • anxiety cures

I got several visitors once when someone bookmarked a post I made on Oprah’s DNA Test. It amused me to see what got picked up. Now I’m on the look-out for any other celebrity DNA testing news. ;)

Other slight boosts I’ve gotten were from people linking to certain posts on various discussion boards. Some boards were so esoteric, I couldn’t even figure out what the main theme was!

  • Nick

    Hi Jeff,

Are you aware of a list that gives a brief description of the target audience of each of the SB sites? For example, you mentioned that as of a year ago 93% of Digg users are male. I assume that we need to focus our efforts with the SB to the right sites to save time. For example, my fitness blog and the cosmetics company I promote are two different audiences. Do you suggest getting this detailed?

Also, is there a list somewhere of the social networking sites somewhere that are in the Myspace, Facebook, Squiddo category? I need to get my VA going on building all my profiles.

Thanks, I’m enjoying the training lab.
    Nick

Jeff Johnson: I aske my operations manager to have the guys update our list and post the new one to the club… I don’t have a date but it will be added to the proper module when ready. Glad you are enjoying the club!

  • Nick

That sounds awesome. I will look forward to it. Meanwhile, the automatic bookmark site you mentioned looks like a great tool. So does traffic geyser for the videos. My question is, is there a tool for auto posting blog entries to multiple social networking (vs bookmarking) sites like Myspace, facebook, squidoo, etc etc etc so that all my blog posts wind up all over the place? Or do we just use VAs for that once they are signed up for my RSS feed?

Also, is this the right place for me to be asking these questions?

    Thanks a lot.
    Nick

Jeff Johnson: there are quite a few auto-posting tools out there, but some will get you banned if not used correctly.

an easy way to do it is to embed your blog’s feed into your facebook account, your squidoo pages, etc.

and if the sites won’t accept feeds simply use a widget on the site to show your feed…

I’m assuming that you are trying to attract the readers and not the engines so the javascript or ajax, etc isn’t an issues.

  • Nick

Actually Jeff and everyone, I don’t know if its ok for me to post this, but this site is cool. Its a big list of a bunch of social networking sites broken up into categories:
    http://mashable.com/2007/10/23/social-networking-god/
    I hope it helps.

Jeff Johnson: Not at all, it’s a great site and a great list :)

    http://mashable.com/2007/10/23/social-networking-god/

  • eric

I had created a bunch of bookmarking accounts… all with different email addresses. i did most of it in one sitting. the bookmarking accounts on digg were all disabled.

You had mentioned in a comment on this page about using public proxy servers and networks (TOR) to access the social networking/social media sites to set up new accounts so they always show different IP addresses.

Can you clarify this and is there any info you can give on getting this started?

Thank you Jeff for all of the value you add!
    Eric~

Jeff Johnson: Sorry, but I don’t have any publicly available tutorials on TOR.

But here’s the software my guys are currently using and it has proxy rotation built in:
    http://socialbookmarkingautomationsoftware.com/

  • Ami

Great method creating multiple accounts. Problem is for a solo blogger, is there any way of further automating this?
I suppose there is always outsourcing

Jeff Johnson: There are automated solutions and we teach people how to use them, but I really don’t think it is in your best interest if you don’t outsource it… many other things are much more important for traffic.

  • Ed Baker

Jeff, I know you suggest SocialMarker in some of your videos for social bookmarking chores. Any thoughts on using OnlyWire as an automatic marking source.

Jeff Johnson: Sorry, but I’ve never used it. However, social bookmarking isn’t something I think you should spend a lot of time on. Just bookmark a few posts here and there for your new sites and/or posts and you’ll be ok.

Creating quality content, getting affiliates to mail for you, and getting real high-quality incoming links are much more important.

  • mike

Still pretty new to the game, just want to say thanks Jeff some great advice.

  • Tony

Nice work on explaining this Jeff, I’ve been meaning to get around to doing this for a while now but you’ve made it so easy because now I can just print thus page and hand it to one of my staff.

  • Web Traffic

Awesome information. I like the part on submittng the videos to social bookmarking sites through AutomaticBookmarking.com and taking 6 out of 10 listings in search engine page. Will try doing it for my sites. Thanks for sharing.

  • Mike

How about social shopping sites for e-commerce websites? What’s the best links to try to obtain for ecommerce sites?

Jeff Johnson: Same types of links for a non-ecommerce site. Blogs, static sites, rss feeds, comments, forums, social shopping sites, shopping sites like google base, twitter, facebook, etc… not all are “incoming links” that the engines folllow, but all are links that humans find and can bring traffic from other sites.

A few comments on the topic:

    1. Create accounts at bookmarking & web 2.0 sites using your blog/site name or keyword. Add links (some allow html) and keywords in the profile. Don’t use these accounts to bookmark “all” of your own content (see #2 however).

    2. At many BM sites if a URL has already been submitted you just give it a vote/thumbs up/digg/stumble/etc. You can add unique comments however. For this reason it is important to bookmark your own content to ensure the tags and description are good

    3. If you want ten accounts at each BM site you only need 10 emails. There is no issue using the same email at multiple BM sites.

    4. I got banned from tumblr and propeller. I set up multiple accounts the same day using the same password. My advice is to use different passwords and do it over a several days and see #5

    5. If you don’t have a proxy go to different coffee shops with wi-fi to set up accounts and to submit

    6. Don’t submit too many URL’s from one domain, submit other people’s content and “vote” on existing content don’t just “submit” content. Only submitting is synonymous with spamming.

    7. Used properly, the popular BM sites (digg, stumbleupon, etc.) can drive traffic not just provide links so spend some time learning how they work and how you can maximize them

Jeff Johnson: My best advice is not to spend too much time on this stuff. Work on producing great content, getting high quality incoming links, and selling a product via affiliates :)

  • Octavian

    Hello Jeff,

Great tutorial but i have one question. At step 5 : “He took the video page at youtube and myspace and bookmark it…” you mean only the video from youtube and myspace or I can do that with the others video pages (from dailymotion , revver, viddler etc…). And after bookmar it it`s necessary to ping all the video urls or not?

Jeff Johnson: It can be used for all videos. Creating incoming links to your videos from blogs is also good.

  • wedding sites

Very good example of social bookmarking. Thanks for your nice efforts to guide people to learn how to use social bookmarking sites.

Yeah, and who is no. 1 search result in G for “social bookmarking tutorial”? Jeff!!! Its not a huge search term though……but a least its free traffic.

  • claence

    Jeff,

Thanks for being honest and real. Was really hung up on getting the the SB thing just right until reading your writing to NOT make such a big deal about it. Do a few and move on :) Bigger fish to fry.

    Thanks again.
